Hi,

I'm currently playing around with skylark theme and custom css. Have a look at the skylark demo here http://skylarkdemo.wordpress.com/ and observe the navigation bar & parent/child page behaviour in the menu.

In my variant of the theme, the links in the nav bar are black font - as I changed the background color to a lighter blue, the font changed to black automatically. That's fine.

In my variant, a current parent page in the nav bar has white font - to highlight that this page is currently viewed. However, if the parent page has child pages, they appear in white font as well even though none is selected yet. When you hover over them, they still remain white. When you select one child page, it also remains white - same as all the child pages under the current parent.

What I would like is the sub-menu of parent pages to be in black font even though the parent page is currently viewed. A child in parent page (an item in sub-menu) would then be in white font only if a) you hover over it or b) if the child page is currently viewed.

The CSS contains a myriad of selectors, it is often difficult to figure out what selector(s) to target to do specific actions. I'm sure this is fairly a simple task, but I have failed to isolate the selector that could be targeted here.

Many thanks for your help.

Made 5 main pages and arranged them as headers at the top of my Home page. The Idea I had, and need help with, is making the 5 pages - once clicked on - show all of the subpages.

just trying to organize the pages a little better and i figured making them subpages would be best. Right now the subpages are visable if you scroll over the header, which is fine, but I also need the subpages to be like posts under those 5 topics.

*FYI* the 5 pages are to the right of the Home button: Personal Assets, Experiential Assets, etc.

In the end it should be organized similar to my other website:

You can create a custom menu so your "child" pages or sub-pages appear in dropdowns below Parent Pages. A custom menu allows you to display Categories with dropdowns to sub-categories in tabs along the horizontal navigation where normally only Pages tabs are displayed. If you wish you can also include Pages with dropdowns to sub-pages and custom links in your custom menu as well. The choices of which to display are entirely up to you.

These are the how-to instructions that answer your question:
1. You create a custom menu. http://en.support.wordpress.com/menus/

2. You add the Parent pages you want to display and arrange them in the order you want.

3. Then you add and drop and drag the sub-pages (child pages) below the appropriate Parent pages, and when you have everything arranged in the menu that you want you save the menu.

4. Go to the “theme location” module at upper left on the menu page. Select your custom menu name from the pulldown labeled “primary location.” Click the save button in that module.

5. Refresh your browser so that it isn’t possibly pulling a cached page, and view see your new menu with Parent pages and dropdowns to sub-pages.

Hi,

Hoping some enterprising person can help me. I have a static home page and to get rid of the double home link I made one the child of another page. The problem is that when I'm on the home page, both "home" and the other page are highlighted as active links in the nav bar. I found another help thread at http://en.forums.wordpress.com/topic/static-home-page-with-2-tabs-active-on-navigation-bar?replies=10 that says this is a theme bug, but not sure if that's true for my theme.

I would just contact support, as was suggested in the other thread, but the support contact form has been down for updates for several days now and I really need to get this site fixed. Can anyone think of a workaround for this? Or know of a way to fix it? Or know of another way to contact support?

Thanks, sorry

Hello,

I'm having trouble figuring out how to get sub-menus on my site, http://www.PhilShepard.com. This is a custom theme, but I did not create it. I had a web developer create it for me. I'll state up front that I have very basic HTML skills. I've tried the usual stuff for creating a sub-menu like going into edit page and naming a parent and also I've tried setting it up under the appearance - menu section by dragging the page to the slight right of the parent page. Neither of those work. When I do that it just puts the child page on the main menu bar as if it was a parent itself. I'm sure it has something to do with my theme being custom. I understand how to access the site in an FTP client and I can edit the code of any file if I'm given the code that needs to be edited. I'm sure it's an easy fix, I just don't have the HTML knowledge. Can anyone help?

I'm sorry I was unable to help you. I believe the theme you are using could be providing this sidebar subpage text you don't want. However, we cannot edit templates so I'm simply replying and that will bump this thread up to the top of the forum where another Volunteer can take a stab at it.

I don't want to delete a whole page of my blog. I want to delete the subpage text that now appears only in the sidebar on one page as a result of creating a child page. This subpage doesn't show up in Edit so I can't do anything about it there.
