I remember when Safari rendered poorly and Firefox and IE rendered well. Then it would switch around.

The OS and the video systems on computers also have an effect on how things look onscreen as does the quality of the display, although this is mostly differences between computers rather than browsers.

All browsers render differently. It isn't a problem with the scripting, or anything in the CSS on websites, it is simply design decisions by the browser developers.

The letters suffer from aliasing and are often almost unreadable. This is a problem that I'm rapidly discovering is, if not universal, at least distressingly common. And it seems to afflict WordPress badly.

If you put my site [ http://michaelshirrefs.net/ ], or even this forum page on both Chrome and Explorer, the text results are dramatically different.

I've read a number of web forums that discuss this at length and propose all sorts of theoretical CSS fixes and stop-gaps. But I still can't figure out whether it's a Chrome problem or a problem with the scripting of websites.

A lot of the talk is about forcing Chrome to fetch the correct SVG files, and one suggestion is that it can be fixed by not putting the REQUEST line for SVG at the end. But then other people disagree ... and I find it all hard to follow.

What's the wisdom amongst the WP/CSS intelligentsia? Is there a workaround that suddenly makes Chrome behave? Or is this a problem that we have to wait for Google to fix?

It works fine on our laptops and on my phone (android), but on iPhone 5, using Safari and Chrome, you can't click the drop down menu; nothing happens. Other links and blogs can be opened though. On the iPhone 4 and the iPad, the drop-down menu also doesn't work using safari.
What can I do to make it work without accessing FTP servers (since wordpress.com users don't have access to FTP)
