Thanks Raincoaster. I checked out the Kubrick theme and I DO see the similar structure that I am looking for! I am assuming that I can customize the right side bar to include information pertaining to the museum and would not be stuck with the Archives, Meta and Categories that are currently listed on the theme correct?

That's great but all it is is a site with a custom header and old-timey colours. You can do that on virtually any theme here, though you might start with Kubrick. It is literally the oldest theme we have.

Thanks everyone. I found a site similar to what I am trying to build that has the exact same look I am going for, although it seems the site is having some alignment issues as it pertains to the placement of the navigation tabs. I've left a message for the designer of the site asking what theme if any she used for this site and am waiting for them to call me back, but I thought I'd post it here just in case:

http://www.wbhsm.org/

The black background, with the earth tone and historical photos plastered against it, and I also like the fact that the content is squeezed in the middle and does not take up the entire screen. This is exactly the look I am going for.

Not sure it's a good match for you but I use Vostok on a site that I am putting photos to make it sort of just a history site - it is gray mostly - but no header image (or I did not add one - can't remember for sure)

Unlusoycan,

As I stated in my initial post, I HAVE looked there as well as all over the web and have not found a theme that matches what I am looking for. I don't want to put the impression out there that I am just looking for answers without putting in the effort of looking for it myself, I have been doing that. I figured I had nothing to lose by posting the description of what I am looking for just in case someone else knew of a theme such as what I am looking for. Thanks for those links I will check them out for sure!

Justpi, thanks for the tip! This helps me in determining what can be changed vs. what cannot to suit my needs.

Hi everybody,

I am embarking on my first attempt at building a site using a wordpress theme. I am building a site for a historical museum that displays civil war and african american artifacts. The museum is located in the southern part of the US. I have been trying to no avail to find a theme that has a black background with red and brown colors that evokes this civil war/early Black Americana feel that you can often see in pictures from 1800s into the early 20th century. Does anyone have any ideas on how I can locate such a theme? I have zero experience at all with this type of stuff so I pose my question to the WP community. Thanks.

Well, it's three weeks since I asked if there was anyone out there who was in Biafra or on the vessel MV Isonzo in 1967, and as of today no one has come forward to admit to it. I realise that you have to pretty ancient to have experienced these things and that it's mainly young people who use these sites, so maybe I was being too optimistic?
OK, so ask your father, uncle, mother, aunt or even your grandparents, especially if they were in the Peace Corps or Voluntary Service Overseas (VSO) There were two or three thousand Europeans in Eastern Nigeria before the civil war, many were British, but there was a large group of Americans too. Ask around, you may be surprised at what your parents/grandparents got up to in their youth!

OK, as of today no one has indicated they were in Biafra during 1967 (see Expatriates in Biafra Circa 1967) Does anyone know of someone who was evacuated from Biafra on the Italian ship MV Isaonzo? I have written about my evacuation on this ship and since it is now exactly 43 years to the month, I think it would be nice to exchange views with someone who was there too. There were over 800 of us and I am sure some are still around. Was it your grandfather, great uncle or distant cousin? Let's hear from you. Contact details at http://africantales.wordpress.com.

Are there any expatriates out there who were in Biafra (Eastern Nigeria) at the time it seceded from the Federation of Nigeria in 1967? Alternatively do you know anyone; friend, relative or acquaintance who may have been there in commerce, government service, with the VSOs (Voluntary Service Overseas) or the Peace Corps? I would like to make contact and exchange experiences. I have written a book (an autobiographical account of my time in Biafra) and you can see samples of it on my pages http://africantales.wordpress.com. There is also a contact facility should anyone wish to tell me about their time in Biafra.
