found it sort of but there's too little of them that i would use, for example, there's no tagboard that does not use javascript and that can function like a normal tagboard when i use it even without javascript. could you all recommend me a tagboard that can be embedded to WordPress which works like cbox?

There is already a very long thread here called something like "Codes for WordPress" where everyone has been invited to contribute cool widget codes they know that work here. You might want to try a search for it.

ya...but needs to comply with the strict requirements of wordpress which is difficult...if wordpress could make an "app store", they could control content like Apple to get the best apps for wordpress users.

A WordPress.com app store, or "widget warehouse," sounds like a good idea. I'd be interested to know if there are plans for an official one. If not, then an unofficial one might prove popular, perhaps in the form of a page at someone's WordPress.com blog.
Having said that, it won't be at my blog. But I do post when I find an interesting new WordPress.com-compatible widget. For example:

The idea of a WordPress.com app store, or "widget warehouse," is a good one. There's nothing to stop anyone from setting up an unofficial one. It won't be me, although I do post at my blog, and often here, when I find an interesting widget that works at WordPress.com. An example is the Lala playlist widget:

I think that we'll see many more widgets available at WordPress.com before the year is out.

As for 3rd party widgets - if you find one that doesn't contain javascript, send it to support for possible inclusion.

I think that WordPress should have a "app store", when there are all types of third party widgets that can be installed on WordPress blogs. This, I believe, will make the WordPress experience more brilliant and great, with loads of coolness.
Also, I think that Javascript should also be allowed.

To add an external widget, put it in a text widget. But a lot of them have javascript and will never work here. If you do a search of the forum you'll find a thread called "Codes for WordPress" with ninety or a hundred codes that will work in text widgets; maybe one of them will work even if those ones won't.

Do a forum search for "Codes for WordPress" and you'll find ninety-some suggestions for stuff you can put in a text widget.

If you find a widget with Plain HTML you can always add the code to a text widget

The only widgets you can use here are those in your dashboard. No javascript, no flash, no frames are allowed. Plain HTML is the only thing we can use.

Are other widgets available besides those listed under the Design tab/Widgets/Available Widgets section? Is there a vendor(s) who is recommended?

I've tried to add some code into the text widget without a lot of success, and also discovered by trying to use a Statcounter widget, that javascript is not allowed.

Recommendations for where to find safe approved widgets would be appreciated.

Do you understand why javascript is a security risk on a multi-user blogging platform?

Let me explain (for those who don’t already know) why hosted WordPress can’t allow javascript.

Blogs are served from {name}.wordpress.com. The wordpress cookie is delivered to any site that ends in wordpress.com. Any javascript on the page is legitimately allowed to look up cookies that would be sent to the domain it’s served from.

This means that if you can run javascript on a hosted wordpress.com page, you can retrieve the login cookie from another wordpress.com user, and then pass it to an external site. (Generally by creating an image reference that includes the encoded login cookie.)

This is just a basic part of the underlying technology of the web browser, and it’s required for sites like gmail, Yahoo! and others to operate. And there are ways a site can avoid this problem (generally by constantly changing the login cookie data with EVERY response, and invalidating the old ones immediately. But (and it's a big BUT) they require more horsepower on the backend than the blogging sites are really able to provide, and there’s still usually a small window of opportunity.

This is why Livejournal, WordPress, and most other hosted sites disallow Javascript on their pages.

For security reasons, WordPress.com strips out javascript and embeds. So, you can't use those apps unless they offer a javascript-free form. There's a thread "Codes for WordPress" in the off topic forum that lists widgets that do work here.

I've tried to put different things in my widgets like Feedjit, for example, and whenever I save the changes, it doesn't recognize it and eliminates the code. For example:

After saving it, all I get is the html: Feedjit live traffic feed as if the rest of the code never existed. Is there any way to fix this? Or I can't use any of these apps?
