The blogger whose blog your are trying to comment on must have the blogspot blog set up to accept the Name/URL option for you to be able to use it.

WordPress.com recognizes your blogger identity but Blogger does not. In reference to Blogger ie. commenting on blogspot blogs the issue is on the other end. Blogspot software assumes we all have a single username here at wordpress.com and only a single blog by the exact same matching name. It will not accept any other URL - invalid URL! it says. Ha!

So if we have a domain, or we have more than one blog registered under the same WordPress.com username, trying to comment and have it link to our wordpress.com blogs becomes impossible, unless the blogspot blogger chooses to enable commenters to post with a username and URL on their Blogger blog.

The only workaround is to register a Blogger blog which will allow you to comment but your username will not be linked to your WordPress.com blog when you do. Then you are labeled as a 'no reply blogger'. It's crazy-making!

Open ID has always failed more often than it has worked.

Bottom line: This is a well known issue. If you simply use the Name/URL option when it's provided then your blog will be linked to your username on the comments you leave on blogspot blogs.

Not sure it this is related to having a WP blog, but I'm unable to leave comments on Blogspot blogs. It doesn't matter if I use my WP info, go anonymous, or type in my name and URL - after I type my comment and hit Enter, the comment disappears. It doesn't end up in the blogger's spam folder - it doesn't end up anywhere. It's not a huge deal, but it would be nice to comment on my friends' blogs.

It's a long standing problem that we cannot assist with. My guess is you are referring to commenting on a blogspot blog or a WordPress.org blog.

Open ID has always failed more often than it has worked.

Bottom line: This is a well known issue. If you simply use the Name/URL option when it's provided then your blog will be linked to your username on the comments you leave on blogspot blogs.

Also note that WordPress.ORG sites are completely separate sites. They are not part of the WordPress.COM blogging community.

If you are not referring to Blogger ie. blogspot blogs then know that WordPress>ORG blogs are not part of the WordPress.COM community and there are separate log-ins.

So, when attempting to comment using my opened, I get an error message stating "Your OpenID credentials could not be verified."
How to solve this?
I use safari browser, and I'm logged in on wordpress.

It doesn't. Why would you expect it to? They have to have Gravatar enabled in order for your avatar to show up, and in that case it would be a Name/Email sign in.

Ok, it now makes sense, thanks for the explanation, I just found it odd that I comment ( when I really didn't, I just posted) and with wordpress's IP address.

WordPress by default will attempt to send a trackback to any place you link to. This is good as it lets the person know you are linking to one of their articles/posts. In the case of your own blog, it presents another way for people to perhaps get to the other article you linked to in your post. Some people like them and some do not. I typically leave them on and then delete the trackback on my own posts to sort of keep things clean. That allows others to link to your articles/posts and then you will get a trackback notification that they have linked to you, and links from outside sources are always good for search engine ranking.

If you want to turn tack backs off, go to settings > discussion and click un-ckeck the top item and save changes.

Since you had a link in your post to a previous post, WordPress automatically puts a comment on that post (a linkback) to help you identify when people link to your content. So the comment was supposed to appear (I believe there may be an option for it, but can't quite recall). It's up to you whether you want to publish it, it just helps people navigate from IEEE post to a related one.

I noticed on the weekend, that as soon as I published a post, I got a comment, that was posted by me, and the IP is WordPress's own IP, the publicize to Facebook didn't work either.
I've moved this comment into trash

I have a strange issue. When I visit blogs that are not directly hosted on wordpress.com, but use wordpress as a platform, I am unable to like or comment on posts. When I go to like or comment on a post on these sites I am promoted to login, which I do, but then the page refreshes and I am still considered logged out. This occurs when I am actively logged into my own wordpress hosted blog and when I am signed out. Anyone know why this might be happening?

there are many of us who are volunteers, thief...but most are like myself who labor under the illusion that what we are doing is somehow important, and that those we are working with are also doing something important, and that we will eventually get credit for our ideas and our warnings...

but what you are doing, however, is helping people anonymously who are doing no more than personal blogging, and after they're helped, move on to their own business, & give no credit to you....it may sound weird, but what you're doing reminded me of something i havent read in decades, catcher in the rye, where you're the one out there catching any of the children who stray too close to the cliff before they fall off...
