I have been using the Grisaille theme for my blog because it has the layout that I want. The blog displays well in both Safari and Firefox, but in Internet Explorer 9, the fonts, column spacing, etc. are messed up. Has anyone else encountered browser compatibility issues with this theme and IE? I clear my cache/cookies every time that I start IE, so I do not think this is the issue. Any input would be very helpful! (Unfortunately, I think I am going to have switch themes again...)

Hi,

Quick one - am rather tempted to move over to Superhero (I'm a wp.com), but looking to recreate similar to my current look - which makes use of excerpts and featured images to maximise 'splash' space when my site is loaded.

When I live demo at the moment, it is displaying the entire post, which isn't ideal!

I am aware that I could use the More tag, but have over 1,000 posts and do not really want to use this on historic posts. Is excerpt supported at all?

Howdy!

The short answer is, font rendering is controlled by the operating system and browser, and therefore not something we can change globally such that you can ensure all your users are seeing the exact same thing.

If you're using Windows XP, enabling ClearType might help:
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/306527

Or you might try a different font that renders more clearly on both operating systems.

But for the most part, fonts will look slightly different between Windows and Mac sometimes -- that's normal.

If you're seeing two totally different fonts between Mac & PC, can you post a screenshot so we can take a look? Thanks!

I had a blog setup using Twenty Ten with the WYSIWYG function of Windows Live Writer (2009). Everything was working fine.

I needed to refresh my settings. Now WLW is telling me it can't download the theme (but I am able to post to the blog). I've been told by the WLW people that some themes have features that the early version can't handle (yet it worked with the theme before). Later themes with the same features are compatible (I've found).

Any insights (other than change themes or update WLW) would be appreciated.

I just spent, no never mind, I'm too ashamed to say how long, fussing with gigya shortcode on this one particular video. I stopped counting how many tweaks I made to it.

I am going bonkers! These poor people - I promised to do a story about every one of their dogs that have died from these Gawdforsaken chicken jerky treats from China. There are quite a number of news videos scattered out all over the country from little TV stations. I want to put them together (in one post) to paint a large portrait of the problem and put faces to the numbers of dogs that are dying from this cr*p.

Any more tips? Think of the poor doggies...and me frustrated beyond measure...

Golldangit, turns out I had those same Java plug-ins all the time. What a dope. I was looking in the add-ons department! Despite that the WP bookmarklet still won't stick. As Raincoaster said the WP/VP bookmarklet hasn't worked for months.

Although, I did get the other bookmarklet to stick; the Add-to-VodPod (VodPod: Share & Collect) However, VP doesn't allow iframes or javascript code either: "Unsupported Embed Code: Some sites provide iFrame or javascript embed codes. For security reasons, we (and most other sites) can support this form of embed code. Sorry!" So, it's useful how?

I cannot for the life of me figure out why I am unable to use VodPod.

I'm using Firefox 9.0, tried grabbing VodPod's bookmarklet to my toolbar, as suggested in the support docs - nope, it won't stick there.

Tried downloading VodPod's Firefox add-on Share Video 1.0, but I can't because it is not compatible with FF 9.0.

Tried VPs custom widget for WP for the heck of it (I probably wouldn't use it anyway) and what I get on my blog is the generic place-holder example of the widget at VodPod. No custom color or custom name.

WP support documents do not address these issues. VodPod's forum and their WP blog was of no use. I have combed the forums here and I am still puzzled why some continue to recommend using it, despite their using the same browser and version as myself.

Your help would be so appreciated. My other alts are gigya shortcode (which I am not a whiz at) or upgrading to VideoPress...not looking forward to either.

Thanks in advance,

Mollie

Sorry to be a pain, but were you able to find a way to get the menu and widgets to display in IE7 at all?

Yes, i agree, i'm not too bothered about IE5 and IE6 at the moment because they are archaic browsers to say the least!. It's surprising considering how fast the web industry changed that people still cling on to systems that are a decade old yet still expect everything to work perfectly.

IE7 unfortunately still gives quite a few hits, so this really needs resolving.

I'll certainly have a look at the CSS validator, thanks for the tip!

@jenia
If you make any progress with analyzing our bespoke CSS on the blog i would be very grateful if you would keep me updated, that would be great! Many thanks.

The Akismet spam filter has me by the throat at the moment and has tossed two of my replies here into the dungeon, but I'll try again. Do a CSS validation report on the site and look through the CSS errors. IE is notoriously rigid on CSS versions and the theme you are using is CSS2.1 and you have a good bit of CSS3 things in the CSS. It would be worth taking a look at those items.

On the IE5 and IE6 thing, the web has to walk away from those at some point, and that has happened. It's either that or all the great new capabilities of the new standards have to be left on the shelf and you allow the lowest common denominator to control what you do.

Fingers crossed this get through instead of being caught in the spam filter.
