I realize now that we cannot upload any new widgets (like the constant contact sign up widget) to wordpress.com. We would have to be using wordpress.org. Is there any way to get around this? I mean I have constant contact and a nice list of client emails. Is there no may to merge these two so that they are integrated and work together? Even if there were a way to type in html code to the page or sidebar...is there not a way to add a sign up form that will directly input new contact into constant contact account/email list?

Hi there - for security reasons, form code can't be placed directly on WordPress.com. You can learn more about the types of code that are allowed here:

http://en.support.wordpress.com/code/

As a workaround, you could find out if Constant Contact offers a standalone sign up form that they would host at their end, and then link to the page from an image in your sidebar instead.

If you need further help, just let me know.

Ok, so I downloaded the Constant Contact Widget - and I just got a php file that was all text - I couldn't do anything with it - is that because I'm on a Mac?

Since this widget didn't work, I searched the WordPress forums to see where I could enter my HTML code (since that was a big mystery for a while) I found out that I could add it in the Text widget.

I did that, and everything about my email sign up form is perfect - except that people can't enter their email address or click "join".

I got a full textpad file of the actual HTML code I need from Constant Contact Support, copied and pasted it again into the WordPress Text widget, saved, and again the same thing happened.

Now when I go back into the HTML code saved into the Text widget and compare it to the original HTML code sent to me by Constant Contact Support, I see that it has been altered - specifally, right where it refers to what's wrong with my form - the part about the actual email entry and clicking "join".

I reentered the correct HTML code, saved, and WordPress seemed to alter it back to the messed up version again.

God, I hope this all makes sense. Please visit my website to see what it looks like:
