I would definitely recommend following the advice given above. Your site takes forever to load and makes my browser really sluggish and unresponsive which is likely to drive people away. To extend the background and borders upwards try adding the code below after all your existing CSS customisations:

body {margin:0!important;}
body #top {background:#fff; border-left: 3px solid #990000; border-right: 3px solid #990000; padding: 0 15px; margin:0 auto;}
body #top div.main-nav a {color:#666;}

Just a note, I ran your blog through pingdom.com's page checker and it choked and would not even finish checking the page load time. That is the first time I've ever had it choke on a web page.

One thing to keep in mind is that a good number of people are on slower internet connections (1.5Mbps or slower) and they simply will not wait for 2 or 3 minutes for your site to load. They will just click away.

Secondly, the search engines consider page loading times when determining search engine ranking, and they are going to heavily discount your search engine ranking because of the very slow loading times, and the overall total size of the page (including the images).

Since I have not let your page load, I cannot determine if you are optimizing your images for the web, so there might be that issue as well.

Sorry, I'm on limited wireless internet and I won't burn 30MB of my bandwidth waiting for your site to load so that I can check it. You have a seriously image heavy site and need to go to settings > reading and decrease the number of posts to show per page to perhaps 1 or 2 maximum.

After doing that, post back here and let me know and then I will take a look.

As you can see, my container didnt stretch to fit all my posts. I think this is because the posts are put there just by a simple php tag and the css dosnt know how long to stretch.

here is my container css:

(#container {
background:url(images/background_main.jpg) no-repeat;
min-height:800px;
height:auto !important;
width:1000px;
position:relative;
})

I am aware that if i make the min-height more, it will fit. But I want the container to stretch with the WordPress posts.

That's a good question. I'll try to explain the best I can why, IMO, it's there.

The way I see it, the "container" allows you to, well... contain the contents element, and makes it easy for you to manipulate the "content"'s relative position when dealing with a 3 column layout; otherwise, the sidebars would overlap with your contents area.

Since the sidebars are at the bottom of the contents, you need to manipulate their position by playing with their floats and margins. If you didn't have the "container", you wouldn't be able to give a left margin to your contents element wide enough to "hold" your "primary" sidebar, otherwise like I said before, your elements would overlap and look messy.

One of my 3 column skins is coded this way, feel free to study its code (and play with it, if you wish) to have a better understanding on how this works.

I hope this explanation helps.

I'm definitely a newcomer to CSS so I apologize in advance if this sounds silly.

I'm designing a new layout using Sandbox-10 and I'm trying to understand the relationship between the container and content divs. It seems to be redundant. The content div is inside the container but nothing else is in the container except what's inside the content div.

<div id="container">
<div id="content">
stuff
</div>
</div>

I know I must be missing something but I don't know what.

Thanks in advance for any help!
