There are no solutions to prevent this that do not require script that must be entered into metadata. We free hosted WordPress.com bloggers do not have metadata access as this is a multi-user blogging platform. Moreover, we cannot install any script anywhere without having the software strip it out. I have tagged this thread so it will be moved to the Ideas Forum where we make suggestions to Staff re: features, etc.

@virtuosewadventures - Thanks.
@timethief - Thank you for the links. Yes, I know about the code, and that we can't use it, and in fact I have over the last two days deleted my boards on Pinterest, having read the Terms and Conditions and noted exactly the same worrying issues as Kirsten. What's more, I've sent 3 emails to Pinterest to ask them help to me to prevent pinning from my blog. They tell me they don't have time to deal with queries like mine! This is why I'm turning to WordPress and its users for help. Some people will be happy to have their work pinned and that's great. But for those of us who aren't, we need a way of protecting our work.

Agreed. The loss of copyright is one that will have serious implications for many creative people, and the lack of understanding of the topic among the general public means that many people do this quite innocently. Blog owners need to be able to fill the void left by that ignorance.

@all4ballet - I agree, although I was focusing on Pinterest for this forum topic (specifically because of the impact on our copyright as stated in their Terms and Conditions) it would be good also to have a way of preventing 'click copying'. I have seen this on other blogs but I know that it's not currently possible on WordPress.

Reading the Terms of Service of Pinterest, I found this:
'If you post your content on Pinterest, it still belongs to you but we can show it to people and others can re-pin it. [...] You grant Pinterest and its users a non-exclusive, royalty-free, transferable, sublicensable, worldwide license to use, store, display, reproduce, re-pin, modify, create derivative works, perform, and distribute your User Content on Pinterest'
The problem is that most people don't 'pin' their own stuff, they post someone else's. Pinterest go on to say:
'Pinterest respects the rights of third party creators and content owners, and expects you to do the same. You therefore agree not to post any User Content that violates any law or infringes the rights of any third party.'
What this means is that if someone posts my images on Pinterest they are giving away rights to my photos that are not theirs to give, and that I will not be able to get back. And Pinterest will assume I have given my permission. And all this despite a clear copyright notice on my blog prohibiting use of my images.
At present WordPress don't have a means of preventing 'pinning', and the code provided by Pinterest doesn't work on WordPress blogs. Please join me in asking WordPress to come up with something that those of us who don't want to be 'pinned' can use.
Thanks to everyone. And thanks to WordPress - this is a great service!

Hi there,

I really need to delete a blog, not registered with this account but with another which I have totally forgotten the log in details to.

the url is: http://www.meumenino.wordpress.com

I created this blog as a research journal for an essay I was writing whilst studying and stopped using it after I completed the project. Now someone has contacted me saying that there are copyright infringements within the blog (I used an image found on google without the owner's permission) and I need to delete the post and/or entire blog.

I have no idea what my log in was and I can't seem to find it affiliated with any of my email addresses, I must have used my university email address to register which has since been deleted. I am worried that I will get in to trouble if I cannot remove the post!

Please can you advise me!! I need to solve this ASAP.

Thanks.

I am Dian Ara, a blogger from Indonesia. On my blog (dianaraquest.wordpress.com) I share book reviews, movie reviews, videogames reviews as well as personal journals. I am a noob about internet law, especially copyright law. Recently I stumbled upon Creative Commons. I was captivated by the idea of free sharing culture so I decided to put an Attribution-ShareAlike 3.0 Unported (CC BY-SA 3.0) license on my blog. It means (please CMIIW) everyone is allowed to share, to remix, and to use my blog posts for both personal and commercial, under 2 conditions: They have to attribute to me, and if they alter, transform, or build upon the posts, they must have the same license as mine.

This led to another striking question: What if those videogames screenshots, movie posters, book covers and trailers (YouTube videos) that I have been using for my reviews are all copyright infringement? They are not mine, and they are not licensed the same as my license, amirite? :|

I have been spending this week to browse through my older posts. Editing them one by one, deleting images and pictures I had taken from random search result on Google Images. I have replaced some with CC BY-SA 3.0-licensed pictures from Flickr. My effort is still halfway through, and I am concerned about these posts:
<h2>A Must Watch: Shirokuma Cafe</h2>
On that post I embedded some fan-made YouTube videos, with scenes home-recorded from the anime. Am I allowed to embed such non-official videos?
<h2>Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part I</h2>
I used the movie poster as the post's image, but I never asked permission from Warner Bros. (the movie's publisher). Am I allowed to do so?
<h2>Co-Op Gaming Done Right, Resident Evil 5 Changed My Life</h2>
On this post I use screenshots taken directly from the game. They are not screenshots officially released by Capcom, and I definitely did not ask for their permission. Am I allowed to do so?

I googled about copyright law and fair use, but frankly, those legal wordings confused me. If you don't mind explaining this to me, thank you very much. And have a fun day. :)
Is it possible if I can ask a site administrator to remove the offending blog article?

Since Blogspot and Livejournal have already suspended his entries containing the scanlations, with Blogspot having been directly given a DMCA notice instead of the blogger to take down the entries, I was wondering if wordpress is a bit more linnient on these matters since this is a clear issue of copyright infringement.
