Yes. Please click the link I provide below and read what you find there.
Regardless of the theme in use these are the video embeds that WordPress.com supports for all of our blogs - no upgrade required. http://en.support.wordpress.com/videos/

See here for the videopress upgrade which allows you to upload videos from your computer for hosting and playback directly within your blog. http://en.support.wordpress.com/videopress/

But note that if you upload your own videos to youtube or fileden, etc. that you don't need to purchase the upgrade to embed the videos into blog posts or pages.

My current account is located at hoody06.wordpress.com
Here are my many questions:

People are allowed to leave comments. Is there a character limit for their comment? They are able to do this with either Twitter, Facebook, or WordPress; What about Disqus, is there a way to add that to the page as well?

If I were to purchase the $99 bundle package that is offered at sign-up, does this give me full access to all the editing features available through WordPress? Am I understanding correctly that in order to have my blog address be something like (blog.com) rather than (wordpress.blog.com) it is an additional $18 per year?

After the first year, in order to maintain my blog, how much would my website cost me?

There are links on the right side of the page (Archives, Categories, Recent Posts), is there a way to change the color of those links? (I had a dark green background on my test page and was unable to see the links.) What about font style in general?

I tried to place an image on the background and it was very small and would not move from the top. I selected do not repeat, center and scroll. I’ve only posted one entry (more of a test entry) but my page still takes up more than a page and the image does not scroll.

As I gain followers and hopefully daily readers, is there a way for me to have ads placed on my page? Would this require my own layout rather than a premade theme?

I guess for the moment these are basically all of the questions I have. I think that by purchasing the pro bundle most of my problems would be solved but would rather be sure prior to making the purchase.

I work for a business that has had a wordpress website for a few months. The guy that ran the site before me was let go and has decided to not be very helpful. However, I do have access to the site as admin but had to create a seperate account to post here in the forum because the login info i was given only works on our webpage and not at wordpress.com. I am still learning the ins and outs of managing the website but the main thing my boss wants to know is what he's paid for. Have we paid for No Ads? Our URL is .com so we obviously paid for that but the ex employee wants compensation for what he's paid for (He claims well over $200). Is it possible to view your account in such a way that you can tell what you are subscribed to? Any help is greatly appreciated.

Thanks

To have free rein in advertising, you will have to self-host a blog. Then you have complete control, but with that control comes responsibilities. You have to do the installations, the upgrades, the backups and all troubleshooting. If something goes wrong, you have to figure it out and fix it. Figure an average overall cost of between $10 and $25 per month - or higher depending on bandwidth and storage needs.

You have to spend money to make money, and the one thing you should be aware of is that the vast majority of blogs that advertise only make around $100 per year, which typically doesn't, or just barely, covers hosting. The percentage that actually make money off blogging is relatively small.

Also, if you are starting a new site, it is going to be around a year to two before you have enough revenue coming in to cover your hosting unless you get pretty lucky. It takes that much time to build up enough page rank to get enough traffic to make advertising pay (unless you blog about ferry fossils or Brittany Spears, or Lindsey Lohan.

Best of luck.

1) There are only two upgrades that allow advertising: the Ad Control upgrade available to blogs getting about 1000 hits a day which enables you to split the Adsense revenue on your blog 50/50 with WordPress; and the VIP upgrade, which costs $600 per month and is recommended for blogs getting half a million or more hits per month which allows you to run pretty much any advertising.

2) You are responsible for maintaining all advertising on your site in either case.

Can someone please answer the following questions for us, then suggest the right package?

    * We would like to update our subscription for WordPress so that we can advertise on our blog page. If we update our subscription, can we advertise on our blog page?

    * How much more per month and per year will it cost us to advertise on our page?

    * By advertising, will we be able to update the creative through WordPress or does WordPress have to update the creative?

    * The type of advertising we would like to have is a leaderboard and skyscraper. Once our blog page has a leaderboard and skyscraper on the page, will this change the template? If so, how?

    * If we want to have ONLY a badge ad on the top of the right side rail, will this change the template?

Thanks all!

There are also links to the free and premium features at the bottom of the wordpress home page. It appears that the CSS upgrade support page is the only one that mentions the price though so I agree that this could be made clearer for new users before they sign up.

There is the option of signing up for an account only where you do not have to create a blog, I'm not sure if this helps you get more information on the upgrade prices though.

I saw another thread that was closed around this topic. From a usability perspective, the way you have to find out what it costs for upgrades is horrible. One point called out in the other comment thread is that you can't find "upgrade" from your dashboard unless you have already created a free account. I am deciding whether I want to use WordPress or not. Forcing me to create a free blog so I can get information to help me decide if I want to create a premium blog is a waste of my time. And forcing me to dig down into your support comments logs to figure that out is an even worse waste of my time.

Suggestion: Add content to your site that displays upgrade costs that is accessible without having first created a free blog. (or) Add content to your existing pages on upgrades that states that until you create a free blog, you can not find, anywhere, what it would cost.

thanks

You can embed many different videos here on WordPress.com. The US$60/year upgrade is specifically for VideoPress videos.

I added some videos to my WordPress.com site yesterday. You can see them here ... http://icicle.co.nz/2010/07/21/waves-under-the-ice/
