Your blog is suddenly very popular. My advice is to write another good post as quickly as you can. Often they will click out of the post that brought them to the blog and look at newer ones. If there are none, they leave. If there's a good one up, my experience is that you keep about 10% of the viral bounce.

If you are referring to a free blog from and being free hosted by WordPress.COM then there is no way you can install a dynamic widget of any kinds into the header of your free hosted blog. Widgets can ONLY be placed in sidebars on free hosted blogs and there are some restricted codes. http://en.support.wordpress.com/code/http://en.support.wordpress.com/code/

I'm looking for a counter widget similar to the "national debt counter" widgets you see that show how much debt accrues every second.

The catch is I want to track "profit" not "debt. For instance, Corporation XYZ made a billion dollars in profit last year. I'm looking for a counter where I can show how much they are earning each second, as well as the running total for the fiscal year.

Ultimately, I'd like to be able to show something like, "In the time you have been reading this blog, Corporation XYZ has earned $3,256,343 dollars..."

I'm not looking for a hit or visitor counter, I just want a generic counter where I can set the dates and amounts and let it run in a blog page, (though if it could be made part of the Header that would be very cool...)

Any thoughts?

I've been using the whos.amung.us counter on my blog for six months but the last few weeks it hasn't been displaying properly; sometimes it's fine but other times for hours it'll just display like a broken link or won't appear at all in any browser.

Maybe it's just something I haven't noticed before but I was wondering if it's been happening to anyone else as well? I've recommended it in the forums a couple of times to people asking about displaying counters, so I'm hoping it's just a problem on my end. If it is I'll have to double check the code or contact the whos.amung.us support.

I find the stats counter/feed counter features very helpful with my new-ish blog <http://almostgotit.wordpress.com/>. What I care most about, like many writers, is being READ, and that can only happen if I can get the eyes on my site to begin with. While I do realize that many-- most? :) -- of my first-time readers either arrive by accident or aren't interested, my feed counter shows me that a percentage of them do stick. Therefore, it is helpful to me to see where the readers come from so I can go to those sources looking for more... e,g, technorati, digg? (see WordPress doc to find more about these) The search engine stats are mostly just funny (I enjoy that!) but also sort of helpful(to see what general things people are interested in. NB: it's good to post on seasonal/topical subjects, but I STILL won't give in and blog about Paris Hilton!!!)

The CLICKS stats are still somewhat mysterious, however. I don't have much of a blogroll yet, but I do embed links in my posts, and very few folks seem to use them. **however**, comments they make later suggest to me that they HAVE checked my links, so perhaps not all of these clicks are being registered (perhaps some people are able to do something at their end to keep out my nosy eyes?) How reliable/complete ARE the CLICKS stats?

Here's one that you can place on a blog post or page http://www.tickerfactory.com/ezticker/ticker_designer.php
It's too large to put in your sidebar but they do work very nicely on a post or page. They are free and you get to design one yourself.
