Much thanks to each of you - I tried justpi's first, and it worked fine.
I appreciate all your responses.

I think I can see that I'll just have to learn how to work with code.

The editor strips out meaningless bits like the one you suggested. Safe way (in the HTML editor, of course):

<div style="margin-bottom:24px;">
VIDEO SHORTCODE HERE
</div>

Change the number to adjust the space.

when you finished otherwise with your post:

switch to the HTML mode.

on the next line after yout shortcode add:

enter, save draft , preview to make sure it looks ok, and then publish.

--- (explanation of the odd method:
for some reason the wordpress editor will strip that code out if you switch from HTML to visual mode. So I think it is easier to add for a line space right before you publish)

A really underhanded way to do it is to put a whole line of spaces right under the video, and then type normally on line below. That's the only thing I can think of. I'm sure there is a way to do it in the html editor with some line of code, but I don't know how. Hope this helps you out.

I'm working on a draft of a future post - I want to put an embedded video in it, but I'd like there to be an empty line under the bottom of the video frame - like there is above the video frame. But if I create a space under the video on the Visual Editor, when I view it in Preview, the empty space has disappeared! I've tried various ways to make it stick, but it always seems to get kicked out under Preview.

It's just a visual thing - to me, it looks better with a little open space under the video. Is there any way that I can create an open line of space under the video frame, that will be there when the post is published?
