@timethief Yeah, well, I must have had my blinders on. You certainly did post the relevant link...I just checked it out. I just couldn't figure it out yesterday. Thank you to everybody. These forums, and the people who are regularly active in them, are a lifeline to me. I'm too sensitive and very easily frustrated, but at the end of the day I usually come to my senses. When I look back from when I first started using WordPress a few months ago to now, I definitely learned a lot. Anyway, thanks again to everybody. Peace and Love to you all!

Finito!!! I did it! It works! You. Are. Awesome. The screen shot was the key. Nobody mentioned before that all I had to do was drag the subpages to the right. Thank you.

Use custom menu option and create a Home menu. Then create "In This Issue". Then what ever you want to show as drop down under that pull those categories left side to show as a drop down menu. try to do like it is in the picture.

This is what I want: I want (very simply) for my home page (the page that shows my most recent posts) to have a name that says "Home" in the page menu bar. I was able to accomplish that, but it caused the problem I mentioned above with the "In This Issue" page not showing the subpages as a dropdown list.

Alright, can somebody pleas visit my blog and you will see what I mean. I created the menu, and I got the "home" page I was looking for (which shows my latest posts). BUT, the page "In This Issue" is supposed to be the parent page to Art, Photography, Poetry, Essay...it should be showing as a dropdown list, but it's not. There's no way I'm this stupid! I get good grades in school. I had a 4.0 GPA. Say it isn't so! What am I missing here. Okay, I'm ready to just surrender and leave with my tail between my legs.

Custom Menu Troubleshooting – My menu isn’t appearing
Go to the custom menu page in the dashboard Apearance > Menus and in the “theme location” module at upper left select your custom menu from the pulldown and then click “save”.

Custom Menu Troubleshooting – My pages are in the wrong order
Check the sub-pages themselves to see if you have established a Parent page and child page “hierarchical structure” in the page attributes module. Remove if required. Also remove any “order” numbers you have assigned that may conflict with the order you are creating by dropping and dragging. Or simply change them so they are the same order as you establish in the menu. Establish consistency – problem solved.

Custom Menu Troubleshooting – My Pages aren’t appearing
They must be public pages – not private.
Public – The page will be visible to everyone.
Protected – The page is protected with a password you set. Only people who have the password can view a protected page.
Private – Pages are only visible to blog Editors and Administrators. Private pages are not visible in Blog Surfer, feeds, or in any search. A page can be private without being password protected.

It's never my intent to make anyone feel stupid. I do strive for clarity in what I post and that perhaps form of writing does tend to be terse. However, rest assured that I make mistakes and learn new things every day.

@poetdaniel: Your original post doesn't make sense because
a) your landing page already shows your latest posts, so you don't have to create anything,
b) creating a page that would display your posts is a contradiction in terms, as timethief explained,
c) your landing page does have a name: it's called Home.

Now that I'm reading your original post again, I think you mean you want a link to your Home page in your menu. That's covered in the post I linked to:

Pages are static and are for content that rarely changes. These are your Pages > Gallery, About Me, Legends, Test. They sit outside of the blog structure and you cannot post to multiple pages in any blog. There is only one main page for posts in a blog and all posts will display on the main blog page. There is no way to exclude posts from the main posts (blog) page.

This is the front page of your blog > http://poetrypoemspoets.wordpress.com/

The front page of the blog by default will display your posts (not pages) in reverse chronological order, with the most recently published post on top. If you do not want all the posts to show on the front page, then you can create a static front page "Welcome" for your site and a “Blog” page for posts.

Choice 1 static front page
Choice 2 running page for all posts on front page

Which do you choose? It’s one or the other.

If you choose Choice 1 static front page AKA as "a splash page" then you have to create two pages as I said above. After you do that you go to > Settings > Reading and make the designation change and click “save changes”.

P.S. In online marketing "a landing page", sometimes known as a "lead capture page" is a single web page that appears in response to clicking on an advertisement. A "landing page" is for marketing products and having an accurate count of stats for hits on that page. A "landing page" can be any page in a blog.

If you have created child-pages, and if you only want all your pages on your menu, you don't need a custom menu at all: the default menu of the theme will automatically display child-pages as dropdowns. So, instead of creating and activating a custom menu, go to Appearance > Menus and select the blank option in the Theme Locations pulldown.

You only need a custom menu if you don't want to display all your pages in it, or if you want to display other links in addition to your pages. In that case, dropdowns are created as shown in this screenshot:

Awesome! There's one problem. On of my pages "In This Issue" is the parent page to a few a sub-pages. When I followed your instructions, I clicked all of the pages (including the sub-pages) to be added to the menu. Then I went to check it out on my blog to see how it looked, and discovered that the sub-pages were showing in the page bar itself, not in a dropdown list from the parent page like it should. So, I went back, erased the menu and started from scratch. This time, I left the sub-pages unchecked and only clicked the parent page. Checked it out, and now it's showing the parent page, but not the subpages.
So, my question is: how do I implement this and keep my parent page the way it should be (in the page bar; subpages displayed as a dropdown list)? Thank you.

• Go to Appearance>Menus.
• Click the cross to create a menu, give it a name (for instance "my top menu"), click Create Menu.
• Click View All in the Pages module, tick Home, tick the rest of your pages, click Add to Menu.
• Click Save Menu once the pages have been added.
• Select that menu from the pulldown in the Theme Locations module, click Save.

I just began using a new theme "Skeptical". It's a nice theme and I really like it. However, the landing page, which I have set to show my latest posts, does not have a name and doesn't show up in my page bar. Is there any way I can create a page (name it) and have that be my landing page while still showing my latest posts? Thank you.
