I see some large images in the links widget in the footer widget area that are references to outside images not uploaded to your blog's media library. You can try to force resize the images with CSS using a rule like this:

.blogroll li a img {
	width: 100%;
}

Or you can save the images and then upload them to your media library and use WordPress.com itself to resize the images by adding "?w=200" (or whatever size you want) to the end of your image URLs.

You can change out the image URLs from the "Links" menu in your blog dashboard. Check the "Image Address" field under "Advanced" for each one.

If you mean display a larger number of posts in the showcase front, that's not a CSS issue: the number is controlled by you in Settings > Reading > "Blog pages show at most [n] posts".
If you mean display excerpts instead of titles, that's not a CSS issue either.

Angie is the Smiley Face's name so I've learned. You know, the smiley face wp uses for stats. Well, SHE's back! She was hiding under the #footer-widgets. When I added 'margin-top' as you suggested the footer-widgets moved downwards to reveal both the Older Post button and Angie the Smiley Face.

When viewing the full site on a mobile devise the View Mobile Site option is now visible as a result. With the Custom CSS mobile option unchecked and the standard Appearance > Mobile Theme selected the original Wu Wei mobile version now works perfectly.

Side note: I wish the Wu Wei Theme would include a sizable button like the one used for Older Posts for selecting the "View Mobile Site" and vice versa. The interface could be more user friendly for those with vision problems.

Thank you so much designsimply for seeing me through the ins and outs of CSS coding. Its been a great conceptual journey ending with a simply clean site based on the Wu Wei Theme.

I lost the OLDER POST button on the Front page.

That's happening because of the footer absolute positioning. Try adding this

margin-top: 6em;

to the .center-column-sidebar block.

and sadly lost the mobile version

You have "Enable mobile theme" checked on the Appearance → Mobile, so you should see the mobile theme for http://sugarcube.us/ when you first load it.

If you're trying to get back to the default mobile version of the Wu Wei theme (which is separate from the Appearance → Mobile theme), you should uncheck the "Include this CSS in the Mobile Theme" option in your Appearance → Themes → Customize → CSS panel.

If so, maybe could we start by summarizing the problem you're facing:

  • CSS in the Appearance → Themes → Customize → CSS panel won't save
  • You have the Custom Design upgrade
  • Theme is Twenty Ten
  • Using Chrome 26.0.1410.65 on a MacBook Pro
  • No browser add-ons or extensions, but you are using a browser theme.
  • You also tested Safari (is this true?)
  • Live preview is not working for you—meaning, you cannot see the changes take effect on the left when you enter CSS into the panel on the right.
  • After saving CSS, you see a success message, but if you reload of view the front page the CSS isn't being applied.

Is that summary correct?

The *only* thing in that list I haven't tested myself is the browser theme. If you did test other browsers, then a browser theme is unlikely to be causing trouble, but maybe I could try testing it. Is the browser theme you are using something I could download and install for testing?

Another basic troubleshooting step is clearing cache. I'm not sure if it would help, but it would be good to cross it off the list as something that was checked:

If you by any chance get an opportunity to test from a different location (i.e. completely separate ISP or network connection), can you try saving CSS again from another location?
