What exactly is it that you want to achieve?

Although midesignwear.com has been registered, it is not using WordPress.com nameservers. If your domain is mapped to a self-hosted site, then your configuration may be fine as currently set up.

If you wish to host your site at WordPress.com, you will need to update your nameservers. http://en.support.wordpress.com/domains/map-existing-domain/#instructions-for-mapping-an-existing-domain

After you make the domain mapping purchase here > Dashboard > Store > My Upgrades and do the set up it can take between 24 - 72 hours for domain name propagation to take place throughout the internet. You can view the DNS changes here > http://www.whatsmydns.net/ What's important during that stage is to be patient.

Before mapping my domain name onto wp yesterday, I had two functioning email forwarding accounts with my registrar (easily). These were [email redacted] and [email redacted]. I understand that I now have to enter new Custom DNS records at wp for the email forwarding to continue to work. I've read through the info. at http://en.support.wordpress.com/domains/custom-dns/ but don't understand what I'm supposed to do. Before mapping yesterday I got the following info. from my registrar: one A record (a string of numbers with dots) and two MX records (strings of letters and numbers and dots). What am I supposed to do with these records? The wp help page says I'm supposed to do the following, but I don't understand what that means in relation to the records I have:
'MX <pref> <host>.
TXT <text>
CNAME <subdomain> <host>.
A <subdomain> <IP>
SRV <_service._protocol> <priority> <weight> <port> <domain>'
Any assistance much appreciated!

Good Morning,

I would appreciate any help that could be provided, as I am stuck at a dead end. I will admit, I am not tech savvy, really.

Here is my issue. I registered my domain name with iPage. Paid for the domain mapping upgrade, and changed the nameservers from iPage to WordPress. No issues.

Then, email didn't work, which wasn't set up before the transfer, but after some research, I understood why.

I emailed the customer support at iPage and they gave me 3 IP addresses and said the MX records need to be updated. However, according to everything I've read, the A records are paired with the IP address, and the MX records are a formatted completely differently.

I have gone through the the tutorials several times and searched the forums for several days trying to figure out what I need to do.

I ended up reversing everything to start from scratch, and currently have my domain (hollykaufman.com) pointed to my wordpress blog (hollsandlolah.wordpress.com), and back on the iPage nameservers.

I want to transfer everything back to WordPress as it was before, but I'm not sure what to do exactly in order to make sure the email will work.

I've searched high and low, and I've come up with every answer on how to transfer a domain name FROM WordPress, but no information on how to transfer a registered domain TO WordPress. Please direct me to the information if I missed it somewhere.

I know this is asking a lot, but if there is someone - anyone- who is willing to help me, I'd appreciate it. I promise, I've looked at every single link that you would normally send me to, and I am still confused.

Unfortunately, iPage customer service hasn't been of much help.

Follow up solution steps:

1. Removed current name server settings (ns1.bdm.microsoftonline.com, ns2.bdm.microsoftonline.com) and changed to new name servers in WordPress (NS1.WORDPRESS.COM,
NS2.WORDPRESS.COM, NS3.WORDPRESS.COM) to point back to the WordPress name servers. Changes propagated fully in about 40 mins which fixed my WordPress website (http://www.lilesinsurancegroup.com) BUT breaks email functionality. No worries we will fix this in the next few steps.

2. Removed custom DNS entries I had entered in Office365 for both A record and CNAME (I had A record pointing to previous IP address of my WordPress website and I had CNAME pointed to alias name of my website lilesinsurance.wordpress.com)

3. Under DNS Management in Office365 for the validated domain name (lilesinsurancegroup.com), Select the domain name then "Manage DNS" link. Then click the "DNS records created automatically by Office 365" dropdown to display the generated DNS records created automatically by Office365. This will provide the DNS record information for email, SIP, and Lync services

4. Copy the MX and CNAME records displayed in Office365 and paste this information into the WordPress Custom DNS table like:

CNAME autodiscover autodiscover.outlook.com.
MX 0 yourdomainname-com.mail.eo.outlook.com.
CNAME lyncdiscover.yourdomainname.com webdir.online.lync.com.
CNAME sip.yourdomainname.com sipdir.online.lync.com.

5. Allowed time for changes to propagate and my WordPress website was back to running and my Office365 email was back working as normal.

This took me a lot of reading to figure all of this out so I hope someone finds this useful.

Some helpful tools that helped me troubleshoot:
http://www.intodns.com/ (Great domain validation tool) http://mxtoolbox.com/ (validate MX record for email functionality)

Thank you so much for the reply, was getting very concerned. Ok, I think I understand what you are saying and thanks for clarifying the architecture. I have another question. Microsoft Office365 recommends them handling the DNS because of Exchange functionality and features. So, is it possible to continue to map my domain somehow using O365 or the only solution is map back to O365 from wordpress? I didn't won't to lose additional functionality that could be added in O365.

We do not support mapping a domain to WordPress.com via A Record or CNAME to an IP address. We are a cloud-based architecture, so if you map here to a specific IP Address, and that IP address or server goes offline for maintenance or is simply retired, your site goes down with it. If you were mapping to our name servers, traffic to your site would just be sent to the next available server.

I strongly recommend that you direct your domain back to our name servers:

NS1.WORDPRESS.COM
NS2.WORDPRESS.COM
NS3.WORDPRESS.COM

Once done, you can direct your email back to Microsoft following this guide: http://en.support.wordpress.com/domains/add-email/add-outlook-email/

Hi there - you can add an SPF record in the custom DNS area under Store > Domains > Edit DNS.

Since they are your email provider, GoDaddy will need to supply you with the SPF record. Once you have it, you'll be able to paste into the box on the Custom DNS page.

For example, here is the SPF record for someone who uses Google Apps for their email:

TXT v=spf1 include:aspmx.googlemail.com ~all

Your SPF record from GoDaddy will look something like that.

My first call was to godaddy, who hosts my email connected to my domain name, but they said it is actually a WordPress problem since my domain name is redirected to my wordpress blog, and these spam emails are using my domain name in their reply-to address. There is nothing in my sent folder, so people know i am not sending spam. However, the reputation of my blog is in jeopardy because these people who are being spammed see the name of my blog linked to the spam.

I discovered how to email wordpress support over security issues and i sent them a plea for help (i really dont like how there is no phone number for wordpress support--in contrast, godaddy picked up the phone immediately in the wee hours of christmas eve). If you have any furthe advice, i'd appreciate it. Otherwise, i will wait for wordpress's response.

This is a support forum for all WordPress.com users. The thing is, someone is spoofing your email address; it's an email problem, not a WordPress.com problem. And it's 90% likely that nobody is actually sending the emails from your account, they're just making it appear as if they are. You can check this yourself by going to your Sent Mail folder.

@revistabuensalvaje I had a look at your Email provider's documentation, and you will need to contact them again to find out the IP address of the mail server your email is hosted on.

Once you have that information, you can go to Store > Domains in your dashboard, click on "Edit DNS", and enter the information provided by Brinkster's support team there.

See "Brinkster Mail Server IP Address" for more information.
