Sorry but you are confusing free hosted WordPress.com blogs and WordPress.ORG installs for self hosting. WordPress.com does not support custom fields. To use custom fields, you'll need to use a self-hosted WordPress.org blog. http://support.wordpress.com/com-vs-org/

I can't find the 'custom field' section. I looked under screen options and it is not hidden there either. I am using wordpress.com. Is the 'custom field' feature only available for paying customers?

i was interesting to change the hero background color...at the moment i change my blog for a period and im using imbalance2, but usually use soundcheck

Hey there,

WordPress.com does not support custom fields. To use custom fields, you'll need to use a self-hosted WordPress.org blog. You can read more about the difference between the two platforms here.

If you let me kno what you're trying to use a custom field for, I may be able to suggest some alternatives.

i add a new post, open screen options, check custom fields box... but in my screen option i cant see the voice custom fields!! im using soundcheck theme.
do you know id all blogs have this option?

We cannot define "fields" in free hosted WordPress.com blogs. You can create a master post to use as a template and then use the "copy a post" feature.

My thoughts:
Tags:

I'm a newbie and I've looked around and found some plugins and I don't understand all the tutorials that come with those. THanks

I'm trying to list all children of a page along with some custom fields, but I'm having a hard time figuring out how to do this.

I know how to insert a custom field into a post, and I know how to list the children of a current page, but how could I list BOTH the children and a particular custom field at the same time?

For a concrete example, look at this page:
http://sciencereview.berkeley.edu/read/spring-2011/

At the bottom, it lists all the children of the page, which are articles that we've written. Currently, it is just posting the article link, but I'd like it to include both the article title as well as its author, like this:

<article title>, by <article author metadata>
<article title>, by <article author metadata>
<article title>, by <article author metadata>

etc. Any ideas?

Hi @bayramozinal, I believe you can only do custom fields in the WordPress.org version of the software and it looks like you are using the WordPress.org version. You can read about the differences of the software here, http://en.support.wordpress.com/com-vs-org/

Hi Everyone!

I couldn't see custom fields under post-new.php when I add a new post.
It was working before when I installed the new theme.
Right now works under post-new.php?post_type=videos (for theme) but I need to change it!

We do not have custom fields here at wordpress.com. Only self-hosted blogs using the software from wordpress.ORG have custom fields.

Since the only customization we can do is through CSS, and since CSS cannot be used to add functionality, my only suggestion would be to put the subtitle at the top of the post.

I have more than 100 categories. I cant update or create each categories and its description individually. I want to use CSV file to update or add categories and its description.
Could you tell me how do i do that and
What are the custom Field for category and Category Description?
I don't want to allow duplication of categories.

Hi! I've never seen "custom fields" in screen options & don't know what it is, so I presume that it's either a wordpress.org-world feature or that it's theme-dependent.

im really desperate here. you´re supposed to find the custom fields in the screen options of your post. but its not there. i opened the screen options but theres i tried different templates, updated my browser (firefox) and googled like a thousand times. whats wrong? is it only available for wordpress.org?

Hi Guys. does anyone know how to add a percentage to a custom field if its a number?

So for example my code is;

<?php echo get_post_meta($post->ID, 'price', true) ?>

If the value of price is 100 and i want it to automatically add 20% so that the outcome is 120, how is this possible?
