We Volunteer do not assist bloggers with themes election simply because theme selection is subjective. There is a Themes Showcase here > http://theme.wordpress.com/ with a searchbox for features that you use to narrow your search. All themes have Theme Descriptions and live demo sites. For locating answers to questions about specific themes you can also search these support forum threads by theme name.

May I ask you a question since my challenges are probably the same as yours. On home page, below the slider, were you able to put content - maybe images - in grid without saying "Read more." And when they are clicked on, goes to pages and not posts?

To make it clearer, I am trying to put buttons or links for Donate, Join, etc. and they need to link to pages, not post format.

I purchased Debut. It is great because it has a lot of visuals which is a great thing to add to a website. It also has great options to create custom menus and distinguish between blog posts and home page posts, as well as create pages and turn off comments etc.

I am really happy with it!

Hi, did you find solution to your question above? I am trying to do the same for my non-profit. I have started using Skylark theme which has great features but keep running into issues of post versus page. It is lot of arm twisting.

There are several themes that have large areas for pictures - I don't care for them so have not paid any attention other than to read the news about the new themes - follow the link @TT gave you above - you should be able to find several with big picture areas

You cannot use Joomla themes on free hosted WordPress.com blogs. The only themes you can use are found here > Appearance > Themes
There are 200 themes you can review here http://theme.wordpress.com/
There's searchbox for feature filters there and all themes have descriptions and live demo sites.

I know nothing about Joomla but I really like this template. Is there anything like it on WordPress? I'd even pay a fee for it...

My blog is actually going to be a website for my writing business and I'm having a custom banner and word mark done by a designer. It will feature archival photos and I'd like as much real estate as possible for the photos.

I uploaded a very large picture from my computer to use as my background image and scaled it down with the Word Press settings. When I see it on my computer at home it looks fine, but when I see it on my friends computer it's not centered anymore. Is there a specific size I can scale my image to before I upload it to make it look good on all screens without it shifting to the left or right?

I work for a not for profit company and we want to use wordpress.COM to create a website. I know this has been done before and it is the best tool for us as we don't have anyone with developer skills. I am >not< confusing this with wordpress.ORG

I am looking for a template that would work well as website - easy top menu (not interested in a side menu) with multiple sub-menus as well. The ability to use slideshows is important. The main thing is, we don't want it to look like a blog.

I looked at the premium DEBUT theme and I like it but I worry it is too picture heavy and will be hard to convert into a normal looking website.

Any suggestions on themes that would be appropriate? Interested in free or premium themes.

Hello I am really interested in purchasing the WP- Smooth template, but I have a few questions first.

Can I change the number of thumbnails in the slideshow ticker?
Can I move the position of the words in the slideshow ticker to a vertical position?
Can I move the "Categories" box that is by the "Banner" box?
How customizable are the modules and the colors?
Is a Twitter ticker doable?
Can I add PDFs to a module?

@thecalgarystampede, assuming you have a self-hosted blog, search over at wordpress.ORG in the extend/plugins section. As I remember, there is a plugin that allows this, but I can't remember the name. You might have to search for several different terms or phrases to find it.

If your blog is hosted here at wordpress.COM, then we cannot use plugins and since we do not have access to the underlying theme files, we cannot make those kinds of modifications. The sidebars here will show the same on any page that the themes displays a sidebar.

Hello,

I would like to edit my sidebar so that it displays different content for different pages. As an example, I would like to have a screenshot of a particular website displayed in the sidebar on only on page on my website, and different screenshot on a different page of my website in the sidebar as well, etc.

Is there a plugin out there that is capable of generating such customizable widgets?

Hmm. That's possible but looks ugly.

It also doesn't integrate into the blog design very well and different tweets are not visually separated

Hey there.

The integrated twitter widget in wordpress only allows to show tweets from a special twitter account.

As I don't like to show conversation from a special twitter account, but all recent tweets with a special keyword that fits to my blog, I was happy to find such a widget on the goodies page at twitter:
http://twitter.com/goodies/widget_search

However, these can't be integrated into my wordpress blog.

Will it be possible to add a customizable twitter widget in future or
is there a workaround?

From what I can tell, the Top Posts widget only factors in the past two days, which to me seems pointless. The Top Posts widget ought to be customizable to collect data from whatever time period we want to consider - past month, past year, etc. It seems like such a no-brainer, I'm surprised WP isn't already doing this.

It seems that many folks would prefer this type of result from this widget. They've suggested that I post my comments here.

That is correct: you can't do this. If it were on a page hosted externally to WP.com you could link to it though.

Forms HTML is not allowed. You can host the form somewhere else and then link to it, but you cannot put a form into your blog. As I remember there are some places that will host forms for you and then either email the information to you or you can collect it online at their site.

Search the internet for something like "free form hosting" and you should find a solution.

No, forms are not allowed here due to security concerns. You will either have to host the form somewhere else, or use the contact form that wordpress provides: http://support.wordpress.com/contact-form/ . When using the contact form code, put it in while in the HTML tab in the page editor. Putting it into the visual editor is problematic although it is not supposed to be.

You might try googling "online form" or something similar. I remember a while ago finding a few that would host the form for you and then you could collect the data from them. You would then just link to your form on their site.
