Hey guys i've been working on a custom theme on wordpress for a few days now and i've done most of it but now i'm stuck. I've got a form that takes and email address and there's a submit button however I can't seem to find a plugin that can work with it some how...I'm not even sure if I should be using a plugin or manually writing the code for it some how. I'm not the most wordpress savvy person as you can probably tell. http://imgur.com/Ypewfa8
It's a single paged website/landing page and I just need some guidance at the moment, i've seen a few wordpress gurus with their own customised mailing list form and i'd like to do the same for mine. Any help, thoughts or recommendations would be much appreciated at this juncture.

Hi Hybrid,

You may have changed these nameservers since your call from GD, but I see that the nameservers are pointing to WP.com - did you change these back? If not, that was your problem.

To answer your question of what to do now: You have multiple options! For my WP.org installation, I use BlueHost. I know a lot of people have had success with Dreamhost and HostGator as well.

You can set up your hosting and install your WP.org site (Dreamhost has one-click installation, for example), and then you can log into WP.com to redirect your nameservers to point to your new WP.org site:
http://en.support.wordpress.com/domains/change-name-servers/

I'm surprised GD gave you some pushback - if you check out the link above, there is information specifically for changing your nameservers with GoDaddy. I'm sorry you've had a frustrating experience!

Here is a lot of clarifying information that I think is really helpful to folks who are just starting out with domains:
http://en.support.wordpress.com/domains/domain-management/

Does this help you?

@raincoaster - Yeah I have been pretty patient with this situation since it's obviously stumped a few people over at GoDaddy. Hopefully I can get something resolved so I can build my site.

@auxclass - When speaking with GoDaddy, I verified that my nameservers were named properly and pointing in the right direction. From my understand (I'm a nOOb with this stuff), the issues has to do with GoDaddy not being able to recognize the information being sent from WordPress since it works through multiple IP addresses.
- This is where GoDaddy advised me to edit my DNS where I bought my domain name (WordPress) to point to their IP.
- Since WordPress uses multiple IP's instead of point to one specific, this is where the issue occurs. (If I understand what GoDaddy was saying)

Something I just found out.

GoDaddy tells you to "Update your DNS (A record) to point to your hosting account."

The problem with that is that you can't.

You need to use a CNAME record, not A. (An A record specifies a single IP address. WordPress.com blogs don't have a single IP address; they run on many servers at once, and have many IP addresses).

So I guess my real question is: What do I do?

It seems as though no one with tech support can give me an answer and I have seemed to have stumped them.

I purchased my domain (kineticstills.com) through wordpress with the idea of wanting to use a custom theme. Reading that i would have to host the domain through someone other than WordPress, I went to GoDaddy.

After purchasing the domain, hosting and theme I started to try and make everything work. This is where things go nowhere.

To use another source for hosting, you have to edit the DNS within WordPress. The issue with this is, you can't from GoDaddy.

I can't transfer the domain because it's been purchased under 60 days ago. I can get refunded for the hosting because it's been too long. And finally, I cannot get the website to work because of this issues.

So, does anyone have any idea on what to do?

Cliffs: domain through WordPress (KineticStills.com), host through GoDaddy (want custom theme), cannot edit DNS.

No, .org and .com are completely different. WordPress.com is a web host that runs a customized version of WP software. WordPress.org only supplies blogging software: you need to find a host to use the software with. By definition, those at WordPress.com are using WordPress.com software. If you want to use WordPress.org software in order to use external themes, you have to find a different web host.

I would say I know my way around wordpress.com pretty well but lately everything just kinda turned my world upside down after purchasing a domain name for my photography website.

(Right now I just have a default wordpress.com theme up)

First of all, I bought a domain name on wordpress.com, then bought a theme from ThemeForest.net
And then realized that I needed WordPress.ORG to upload this theme, but I don't know the first place to start trying to upload the theme folder.
Do I need to buy a hosting site to be able to upload my purchased theme or does my $99 purchase of a domain from wordpress.COM cover that 'hosting'?

I have a Premium account which includes all features, but I cannot upload customized theme. I planned to maintain my Go Daddy account, then map over to my .wordpress.com account. I am thinking it is because I have the pemccollc.wordpress.com, but I have hosting at Go Daddy. I do not get any message in dashboard allowing me to Install theme. Just a yellow box at top saying "A free domain was included in the purchase of your WordPress.com Bundle. Get that domain for your site now!" -
- My intention was to edit, do everything with and map from Go Daddy - can you provide insight? - Thank you very much ahead of time.

for some reason when uploading the XML file the theme did not transfer? is this right?

That is the way things work normally

is there something that you have to do separately to transfer your theme?

You need to find a similar theme over at WordPress.ORG - see above - note that the themes at WordPress.COM are highly modified for use on WordPress.COM

You also need to make friends at WordPress.ORG for support of your new blog

Sorry if the answer to my questions is stated in the previous posted, but I have moved my wordpress.com blog to wordpress.org, self hosted. I am however having trouble with my themes. I would like to use the theme that I had on my wordpress.com blog and apply it to my wordpress.org blog, for some reason when uploading the XML file the theme did not transfer? is this right? is there something that you have to do separately to transfer your theme?

Would greatly appreciate your support :)

Can I not simply transfer my site to the wordpress.org servers so I can upload my theme??

No - WordPress.ORG is the keeper of the WordPress software - they are not a host - they do have some recommended hosts

No. You paid to get a custom domain; you haven't paid for hosting. The blog is still hosted at WordPress.com. You will have to buy paid hosting elsewhere if you want to install a theme.

DO NOT DELETE ANYTHING because you can't undo it and whether or not you move, you're going to need that custom domain.
