That's the way the Oxygen theme is designed. If you want full posts on the front page you can choose another theme.

When I publish a post, it gets cut off and you have to go to another page to read the whole thing. How can I make these posts fully visible from the front page? I can't find this information anywhere in the help articles. WordPress is incredibly confusing to use!

I then had to manually go to the blogpost and tweet it to get it to look like this

So my question is what determines whether the "Continue reading->" link is shown in the excerpt?

In this theme, the continue reading link will only be displayed if the post content has been automatically truncated. If it is too long, then we will shorten it for you.

In the example post in the jazz category, this post is so short that it does not get truncated and no link is shown. This makes sense when the post contains only text, but in your case - with the video following the text - I can see how this creates an inconsistency.

Is there a way to always show the full post or is that dependent on the theme I am using?

This is completely dependent on the theme. There is no option to toggle between excerpts and full post content.

Hi,

I have the blog amusicalhodograph.wordpress.com and when you click some of the Category links, for example the "Jazz" link, the resulting post is cut off in a weird way. It doesn't have a link that says "Continue reading->" like some of the posts in other categories.

So my question is what determines whether the "Continue reading->" link is shown in the excerpt? Is there a way to always show the full post or is that dependent on the theme I am using?

The first h2 heading on the new landing page at http://wordpress.com is slightly cut off on the left here. I'm using FF 15.01 on Ubuntu 12.04. Made a little screenshot:

I think it's because of the negative left margin in the CSS code:

#h4home #landing-themes h2 {
    margin-left: -7px;
    ...
}

I don't really know my version. At the bottom of the page it says Kubrick, and the Horton Foote Society built me the website in 2009.

There is one "post" on there, and my problem is that if I try to add to it, or change it, after a certain number of lines, it won't print any more lines. So I have to make the post very short. It won't let me go past a certain number of lines (maybe the number that were in the original post? I just try to go into that slot and change it. I'm not originating a whole new post).

Obviously I am very ignorant about computer things, so please make any suggestion very, very simple to do, in simple language.null

Well I will. Because I would use the IE tools available. The CSS needs to be altered in something first. That solution is best tested dynamically. Maybe it didn't sound right. But if the Ops follow the idea they should get better and more timely assistance.

Well, yeah, but the problem here is that it works in Firefox, not in IE7 so, doing something like I did (saving the CSS locally) is the best way to try to fix a problem, and offer a solution; otherwise, and I'm sure you know this, you won't be able to see how certain elements behave in IE7, like what's happening to him.

@flashkube. I am sorry you do not like my response but here are some of the issues. Most helpers want to see the problem live. They do not want to rely on someones description of the problem. Nor to see a jpeg of it. They need to see the problem and how it responds in different circumstances. Secondly they are busy people. Hence the best tool to provide them with is a working link.

Next the CSS. Anyone can access the CSS on any site. So why publish here? Furthermore by publishing it here a whole range of potential errors creep in. Is the OP copying from the site with the problem? Or another maybe local install? Is it a real copy? etc.

The fact is that someone who posts their CSS is demonstrating that they haven't got the first clue how web development works. It is not surprising that they are struggling. :)

hmm, that's weird. I saved your front page and modified the definition like that and it worked. I'm at home right now and here don't have IE7. If you don't mind, tomorrow when I get a chance, I'll look at your CSS again.

And yes, IE doesn't follow standards that well.

thanks devblog. i'll make sure that i use point sizes for fonts from now on. i replaced my .description snippet with yours and am still having the same problem. i've heard that microsoft is notorious for ignoring web standards in IE. i wonder why firefox renders the page perfectly?

I'd suggest the following change to your .description class definition:

.description {
    color:#bd934f;
    font-weight:normal;
    font-size:11pt;
    margin: 10px 0 0 20px;
    padding-bottom: 5px;
}

Also, I'd also recommend you not to use pixel units for fonts. Is not good practice. For fonts use em or pt units. Again, this is just a recommendation.

Try the above code. Hope that'll help fix your problem.

I can not tell you how frustrating it is when people clutter up the forum with their CSS. It is useless. The same people then frequently fail to post a link to the BIQ. :)
