Correct, Newsworthy has one default color scheme which is the one in the demo. Changes to the colors in this theme requires the Custom Design upgrade noted above.

This process is not exactly "correct" as far as the options are concerned.

The Date Format should represent items such as the day - month - year while the Time Format should contain the time section.

Please correct me if I am wrong but it sounds like you are using both values in the Date Format. In The Morning After both the date and time format values are "glued" together to create the datetime that prints with each comment. Unfortunately there is no way to hide one independent of the other.

For a number of years, with different themes, I've tried unsuccessfully to add the time to my posts' datelines. Yes, under Settings > General I can set a custom dateline -- F j, Y, g:i a T -- and get what I want: April 6, 2012, 2:57 pm MDT. But doing so inevitably causes the dateline in the accompanying comments to repeat the time: April 6, 2012, 2:57 pm MDT 2:57 pm MDT, since comment datelines already include the time by default. I have the CSS upgrade. Is there a way to use CSS to add the time to the post datelines only? I'm using The Morning After theme.

I would do this for the non-hover color:

.hentry .entry-meta .date a {
color: #000000;
}

And then this if you wish to change the hover color of the date only.

.hentry .entry-meta .date a:hover {
color: #AF1E3F;
}

Edit the colors as desired.

Neither of the above are in the original CSS (the colors are inherited from "a" and "a:hover") so I've included additional classes to specifically target the date.

In the Settings>General menu, I've set the format to the desired "01.30.12" format (m.d.y) but the page still displays the default "Jan 30, 2012."

Any thoughts? Any help would be much appreciated!

It looks like you set a custom date format in your General Setting (Settings > General), but it was invalid. You set "5.21.2011" so every post had that date.

Custom date formats can't contain a specific date. You need to use format characters that will apply to all dates. In this case, you would want to set your custom date format as:
