If you register any wordpress.com domain then you can domain map a domain that you own and is held elsewhere or, wordpress.com can register it for you at the time you set up domain mapping.

@budfudder,
with domain mapping if you have the "correct.com" domain you can register a blog as (anything).wordpress.com then map it to correct.com. Of course you need to pay an annual fee of $17 for wordpress to register and map it for you.

If you haven't paid I would guess that "correct.com" is free to register still, but it possible that it is in a reserved state. If it is then staff should be able to help you complete the purchase if that's what you want.

Another alternative is just to think of another name and register the .wordpress.com for free.

Thanks for all your responses. Yes, I added the custom domain upgrade so that my blog name would be myblog.com, rather than myblog.wordpress.com. I didn't pay for it - didn't get that far. At the very first screen (before I actually had to pay) I realised what I'd done and wanted to change it - but couldn't work out how to do so.

So I (foolishly, I now realise) deleted it.

tandava, I think I understand what you mean about using a domain mapping, but I can't register either (correct).com or (correct).wordpress.com or (correct).anything else. It seems like the 'myblog' part of the name I registered is gone forever for any of the suffixes.

That sounds likely, I couldn't really work out what he meant by " incorrectly chose to use the .com suffix"

The other option he has is to use the .com domain he registered after all. If he does want it and if he paid for the mapping and registration its worth him asking the staff if they could move the mapping to another blog

As the three warnings you're given during the deletion process confirm, neither you nor anybody else can use that domain name again. Ever.

It sounds like you started a blog and added the Custom Domain upgrade at the time, then deleted the blog because you didn't want to use the domain you'd paid for. Contact staff via the help button on your dashboard and they should at least be able to refund you for the domain you bought for a blog you deleted.

I am new to WordPress. I went to create my blog, and incorrectly chose to use the .com suffix (e.g. myblogname.com). I got to the point where WordPress had sent me the confirmation email, but there was nowhere I could cancel and go back to re-create it without using the .com suffix (I wanted to re-create it as myblogname.wordpress.com). So I deleted the blog, and when WordPress sent me the email to confirm the deletion, I did so.

Now when I try to register the name with the (correct) .wordpress.com suffix, it says the name is not available. Does that mean it's gone forever? Nobody can ever use it again? Or is there some way I can use it with the wordpress.com suffix?

Thanks for any help.

I was almost beside myself, when I did what you said, found users>personal settings>Account Details, etc. I was so confused I wanted to quit my blog and start over, but that didn't seem possible either.

In a nutshell free blogs from and being free hosted by wordpress.COM cannot be used to drive traffic to third-party sites by means of advertising and/or affiliate programs (see next section for more clarity). E-commerce tranactions via shopping carts and the like cannot be conducted on wordpress.COM blogs. No retailing or reselling the work created or services provided by anyone other than yourself is allowed.

Affiliate marketing blogs
The only exceptions with regard to affiliate links are found here:

Affiliate marketing blogs: Blogs with the primary purpose of driving traffic to affiliate programs and get-rich-quick schemes (“Make six figures from home!!”, “20 easy steps to top profits!!”, etc). This includes multi-level marketing (MLM) blogs and pyramid schemes. To be clear, people writing their own original book, movie or game reviews and linking them to Amazon, or people linking to their own products on Etsy do NOT fall into this category. http://en.wordpress.com/types-of-blogs/

Advertising
I am sorry, but advertising is not allowed on free hosted WordPress.com blogs. The only exceptions are for high traffic blogs that qualify for and are accepted into the Ad Control program, and very high traffic blogs that qualify and are accepted into the paid VIP hosting program.
http://wordpress.com/types-of-blogs/
http://vip.wordpress.com/

If you require an ecommerce site, advertising and/or affiliate links on your blog, you can hire a web host and get a free software install from http://wordpress.org In that case, please see the information at the link below to learn about the differences between free hosted WordPress.com blogs and WordPress.org software installs for self hosting. http://support.wordpress.com/com-vs-org/

re:duplicate content blogs
Duplicate content blogs are not allowed here at wordpress.com. This is what Google has to say.

However, in some cases, content is deliberately duplicated across domains in an attempt to manipulate search engine rankings or win more traffic. Deceptive practices like this can result in a poor user experience, when a visitor sees substantially the same content repeated within a set of search results.

Google tries hard to index and show pages with distinct information. This filtering means, for instance, that if your site has a "regular" and "printer" version of each article, and neither of these is blocked with a noindex meta tag, we'll choose one of them to list. In the rare cases in which Google perceives that duplicate content may be shown with intent to manipulate our rankings and deceive our users, we'll also make appropriate adjustments in the indexing and ranking of the sites involved. As a result, the ranking of the site may suffer, or the site might be removed entirely from the Google index, in which case it will no longer appear in search results.

My blog is "yonargi.wordpress.com."

This is my ministry blog, and I am most intensely interested in keeping it as is (well, as it was before I messed it up late last week.)

I wanted to see if I could become an affiliate marketer, so I experimented by setting up another blog site in WordPress, because that is what I was most familiar with. It didn't work. The two sites were getting mixed up, so I went in and deleted the second site. I thought it would just delete my affiliate site, and we'd be back to normal. Well, it didn't.

Now, when I click my download link AND when WordPress sends me a notice about (for example) someone leaving a comment on my Yonargi.wordpress.com site, it links back into my deleted affiliate site, fulfillment247365.wordpress.com. What must I do to get this site working again?
