Blog URLs that are deleted are not recycled.

Provided you are logged in under the username account that registered the blog you can delete it by using these instructions. http://en.support.wordpress.com/delete-site/

Username accounts are ever deleted but there are steps you can take that result in leaving only a throwaway email address behind.

1. You can go to My Account->Edit Profile and remove all data except the account name and an email address. Create a throwaway email address and change the account email to that throwaway address. This only leaves the username behind.

2. To unsubscribe from email sent to you from WordPress.com, go here and click on “Block all subscription emails from WordPress.com”:

3. To ensure the account is locked up tightly, visit this site, generate a password of 15-20 characters, and change the account password to it:

4. While you cannot completely delete your Gravatar profile, you can remove all of your profile information easily through the "Edit My Profile" page here:

You can also hide your Gravatar profile from external access. Visit your profile page (click your name in the top navigation of the website), then click the "Hide My Profile" link in the bottom, right-hand corner.

No. There is no such thing as a username transfer. Usernames can be turned into blog addresses, but blog addresses cannot be turned into usernames.

After this, when you leave a comment, your Blogger URL will be left behind.

You can't delete the account, and deleteing the blog URL is permanent. So you might as well keep it as a test blog.

Now when I comment on other wordpress blogs my details come up as this test blog and I can't comment under my Blogger profile.
What I would like to do is delete my account altogether - but if this is really not possible then at least change the email address that the defunct wordpress site is using.
Could someone tell me how I can sort this out?

WordPress.com accounts are permanent and cannot be deleted. Blogs can be deleted, although you didn't create a blog (you only created a user account).

Private means nobody that is not a member can see any content.

Once deleted the name is GONE FOREVER!

Two people a week at least drop by "I want my old blog name back" and no can be done.

Redirect and set to Private is the safe way.

I started a blog on wordpress.com a few weeks ago and finally got round to setting up a self-hosted website. I've completed the necessary redirect and paid the re-direct fee. I'm wondering if I should now delete the original .com hosted site or remove all of the posts and pages at least. Once the redirect has finished in a years time I can't see the need to do anything with this account on WP.com. My concern is that after the re-direct expires in a years time the wp.com site will reappear in search as a duplicate site with duplicate content.
