So apparently you're talking about a different blog.

b) When you delete a category, the posts that had been filed under that category aren't assigned to "Uncategorized", they are assigned to the category you've set as your default post category in Settings > Writing (which may or may not be "Uncategorized").

It says that if a category is deleted, the posts revert to the Uncategorised cat., but I don't have this 'uncategorised listing. I may have deleted it at some time, thinking I wouldn't need it.
Can I restore it myself, or should this be a process carried out by the backroom boys?

To delete the tags you need to so the same, but in this case enter From your Dashboard go to Posts ->Post Tags and do the same

In times when there are high server loads or when maintenance is being done, there may be a delay of an hour or so, and in some extreme cases I have seen that extend to 6 or 8 hours. Also, wordpress has obviously been rolling out some new code in support of new features and bug fixes, and when that happens, some stuff can slow down.

i tried logging out, clearing cache, closing browser and clearing cache, and stubbornly it's still there, although it isn't.

so, how can i get rid of something that doesn't exist?
