So anyway, I'm an amateur when it comes to coding, but I wanted to design a theme for a blog.

You cannot build or use your own custom theme built from scratch at WordPress.com.

http://en.support.wordpress.com/ftp-access/

http://en.support.wordpress.com/themes/adding-new-themes/

The only themes we can use are those found here > Appearance > Themes
This is a multiuser blogging platform. All blogs wearing the same theme are using the same underlying template and we cannot access the underlying files and edit templates or themes. http://en.support.wordpress.com/themes/editing-themes/

There are two free themes, Sandbox and Toolbox designed to allow maximum flexibility for CSS editing and creating new “skins”. Toolbox is more modern and includes a lot of support for CSS3 and HTML5, so it is really only limited by your skills and knowledge.

If you have CSS editing experience the upgrade will allow you to stylize the appearance of themes you find here > Appearance > Themes, but will not allow you to change the functionality, by editing the underlying template. It does not allow you to remove footer links to the theme designer or to WordPress.com. Also note that CSS is theme specific, so you cannot use the CSS stylesheets from other themes with the themes at WordPress.COM. http://en.support.wordpress.com/custom-design/custom-css/

Not entirely sure this is the right place for inquires such as this but I figured I'd give this a shot after working on a theme for a while.

So anyway, I'm an amateur when it comes to coding, but I wanted to design a theme for a blog. Seeing as I can't afford web hosting, I determined to try and get it on WordPress.com, so that I might use it and others could as well.

However, upon looking at the, what seem to be, pretty strict guidelines, I'm not sure if i can get the code up to snuff and include everything I must for the them- for instance I have no clue as to how to include the wordpress.com $30 a month theme customizing functions/capabilities.

Aside from that, I was going for a theme that is purposely bare, as a result some standard things are missing, such as a general nav menu, and I've moved sidebar content to the footer instead.

Here are a few images of the live test I have for the site at the moment to give everyone an idea.

Img 1

Img 2 (Shows footer/sidebar widgets)

For further reference, when hovering over links (Such as site title and read more arrow,) They display the meta date color.

Anyway, I was wondering if anyone could sort of guide me on this, or if anyone thinks the design is decent enough to do a little more work on, I'd happily turn over the files to someone who knows they can mold it into a functioning theme and get it onto wordpress.com- again I want to use it, but can only do so if i can find a free hosting solution such as WordPress.com.

I apologize if I'm wrong in bringing this up here. Thanks for reading.

It is absolutely not possible at WordPress.com, nor will any local version on your computer work the same as one live here. The WP.com software is very modified from the WordPress.org software that you'd be able to put on your computer.

Here, we cannot modify the function of themes, we can only modify their appearance via CSS editing, and then only with a paid upgrade. It sounds like you'd be better off with paid hosting and a WordPress.org install.

Hi guys:
sorry if this is not the correct place to post this question, I'm a newbie here
I want to develop an application that reads wordpress sites, so I need access to the sites XML file that I can get via "Tools > Export" section *BUT* without having access to the site's administration panel.
Is there a way to do that vía an API or a URL with certain parameters?
Thanks a lot for your help!
