Hello,

Somehow, I've managed to create two blogs under the same address. Problem is, I have a domain linked to the main one, but when adding a post, it sometimes posts to the "hidden" blog. Is there a way to completely disable or delete my blog that I do not want to use...simply because it is getting in the way.....

a) Checking or unchecking "Comments" in Screen Options is irrelevant: it determines whether comments made on a post will show up on the post edit screen or not.
b) Enabling or disabling comments in Settings > Discussion becomes your new default: it applies to posts and static pages you create after you change the setting, but has no effect on already published posts/pages.
c) The per-post discussion options override the default setting. So you need to allow comments and pings in Settings > Discussion, and disable them for each individual "featured" post.
d) For an already published post, you don't need the Discussion module of the post editor: it's faster to go to Posts > All Posts, hover over the post title, click Quick Edit, uncheck the options "Allow Comments" & "Allow Pings", click Update.
e) But since you want to change several posts, it's even faster to go to Posts > All Posts, tick the little squares to select the right posts, select Edit from the Bulk Actions pulldown, click Apply, select "Do not allow" from the Comments and Pings pulldowns, click Update. (Repeat for the next page of posts, if the posts aren't all listed on the first page.)

I feel like I am losing my mind *breathe* :)

I have reviewed the documentation several times for disabling comments on published posts. I've revised Discussion module, per post settings and Page settings but it's not working.

I want posts which appear in my slider, category Featured Posts, not to have comments. Only the Blog posts should allow comments.

What I have managed to do is turn off comments for all new posts but of course I am not able to turn them back on. Screen options settings per post have Comments checked but it still doesn't show.

Appreciate the help!

Now it says "comments are closed". Any chance theres a way to remove that text?

When you are on the "Edit Page" screen, you will have to make sure that the "Discussion" module is visible. This module is hidden by default. You can make it visible by editing the screen options: http://en.support.wordpress.com/enable-disable-comments/#missing-discussion-module

Then you should be able to uncheck the "Allow comments" box. (Don't forget to save the page after making this change.)

I´ve reda both the support and some forum threads on the topic but I cant seem to solve the problem. I dont want comments on some of my static pages, but I cant disable them.
I know that I have to edit an already published Page specifically to disable comments. But– there is no option to do so in the editing window for a Page/post.

Any ideas?

If it can´t be done in this theme, I´m happy to upgrade to pro if that means I can get rid of the comments. So question number two is: will I be able to once upgraded?

thanks for your input. I did read it, yes. And comments are disabled for those posts/pages, but the actual comments-box itself remains.. I´d like to get rid of it, purely from esthetic reasons..

If you Disable globally, that only keeps it from showing on new items. It is not removed from previous items unless you edit those items specifically.

I´ve gone through the advised steps to disable comments, but still the comment-field shows on bottom of pages and posts. Is it not possible to get rid of the whole comments-BOX itself? I´m using Wu Wei.

Then get a junk email account and change the email addresses to that junk account and your real email is released - do write down the log-in info so when you changed your mind next year you can get back in -

I was looking at deleting my wordpress account which I found out cannot be done (which by the way is ridiculous, how can they be allowed to keep my email address if I do not want them to have it?) but I was directed to a page that said you can leave your account inactive. What will being inactive do to my account? I havent logged in to my account in at least 3 months prior to today and it is still there so I dont understand what this is about, is it because the blog itself was still on with random people viewing it? I want my email address and username out of the wordpress system. I have deleted everything I can and any help on this would be appreciated. Thanks

Ok - I've made a separate page called "Home" and moved the content over from the original welcome post. Now when I go onto the front page it says "Sorry, but you are looking for something that is not there." Is there a way to get the home page to show up as a home page? My guess is that if I send people to this they'll see that message and give up, though some will probably click on home.

Am I making this harder than it should be? I really do not like computer stuff.

All comment options are gone on the subsequent pages, but still showing up on Home.

Let's try and keep this simple. There is only one page you can post to in any blog and by default it's the front page of the blog.

This page > Settings > Discussion
Discussion settings is where you set up defaults for comments.

We can also override the default settings and enable or disable future comments on any individual post or page.

Note 1: By default, new blogs on WordPress.com will have the Discussion hidden. You can reveal it by clicking on Screen Options http://en.support.wordpress.com/screen-options/ on the top right corner of your Admin page, and checking the box that says Discussion so the module is included. http://en.support.wordpress.com/modules/#list-of-modules

I've just noticed: your blog's front page is displaying your latest posts, in your case, a post called "Welcome to McReynolds Designs" (that's why the comment form appears).
If you want your blog's frontpage to be a static page, on your dashboard menu go to the Settings section -> Reading -> "Front page displays" -> click "Static Page" and choose on of your pages (you should probably create first a page called "Home" with the content from your Welcome post and choose it).

The problem that I'm having is that on the home page there are two buttons on the bottom "edit" and "comment", but you can't go into "Page" under the dashboard and see a page that says "Home". I've gone into Pages, checked all boxes, clicked and changed bulk to edit, hit do not allow and update. All comment options are gone on the subsequent pages, but still showing up on Home.

Edit Page -> scroll down to the "Discussion" box area and uncheck " Allow comments" -> click "Update" .
You can do this simultaneously for multiple pages by going on your dashboard menu -> Pages -> check the ones you want to edit -> go to "Bulk Actions" dropdown menu at the top -> choose "Edit" -> click "Apply". A new section will appear: click on the dropdown menu labelled as "Comments", choose "Do not allow" and "Update".

Yes, I also used to get tons of Likes which were obviously spam from commercial bloggers not interested in my posts. I've eventually hidden the public Like buttons and disabled Like notifications because of that. They kept trying for a while, via their own WordPress admin interface, but eventually stopped when they realized their Likes were invisible...

Unfortunately, I'm receiving spam 'Likes' and comments from other WordPress users, who seem to be gaming this option in order to redirect people to their own content. These appear to be automated responses, rather than genuine comments. Examples?

The options on the editing page are found in the Discussion module. If you're not seeing the Discussion module while on the page editor screen, click Screen Options (top right) to make it show up.
Faster way: go to Pages > All Pages, click the little square to select all the pages, select Edit from the Bulk Actions pulldown, click Apply, select "Do not allow" from the Comments pulldown, click Update.

I don't want comments to show up on any of my pages (they're fine on the posts). The theme I'm committed to using is Oxygen. I don't the traditional "allow comments/pingbacks/feedback" anywhere on the editing page and don't want to disable comments entirely. Am I asking for the impossible here?

That is correct. "Likes" are for the viewer/reader and are sort of a "bookmark" since they show up in user's Reader.

You can choose whether to display "Likes" on your site or not and/or receive notices about them or not. Regardless, a logged in WordPress.com user has the ability to "Like" a post from several places, including the Admin bar and the Reader if they've followed you.

Oh, good info. I want to encourage more comments rather than "likes". So it's not just the notifications i want to get rid of, it's the ability for people to hit the like button. Sounds like maybe that's not possible. I'm starting to wonder if I did the right thing by using wordpress for my blog. Seems to be geared mostly to other wordpress bloggers. So many things i love about it but I have run up against a few obstacles I've learned to live with.
