You did have auto-renew activated. This is a feature designed to help people remember to renew their domains and not lose them by accident.

Auto-renew can be activated or disable at any time on the Store > My Upgrades page of your dashboard. You can read more here: http://en.support.wordpress.com/my-upgrades/

I don't understand how the payment had been made when I didn't 'renew' the domain each year.

It looks like you had already stopped the automatic renewal, but I went ahead and cancelled the domain, removing it from your account, to avoid any future confusion.

Unfortunately I cannot offer you a refund for purchases made over a year ago. You should have received multiple emails reminding you that an automatic renewal was upcoming.

I have not known that I have been paying for the domain for past years. I didn't want to continue with the domain address and know that its default option let the payment go through. I would like to cancel the domain now and ask for the full refund for the periods that I was not aware of.

WordPress.com provides a 30-day refund on all upgrades except Domain Registrations, Domain Renewals, and Guided Transfers.
Provided you are logged in under the same username account that purchased the upgrades, you can request a refund yourself directly from the Store section of your Dashboard

Note 1: It takes from 1 - 2 weeks for the refund to be received.

I bought Custom Design (css) about a year ago, and it expired today. Though when I checked 'My Upgrades' it showed an upgrade that was dated today. Long story short, It automatically upgraded itself even though I put it on Manual upgrade.
I don't want to have Custom Design anymore since I don't use wordpress much, though if It keeps charging me $30 a year, this is going to be a problem. Is there anyway to cancel it? I tried to find the Cancel button on the My Upgrades page but it wasn't there so don't suggest that. Otherwise I need help. Thank You.

There are no upgrades under your account.

Please note that you'll need to be logged in as the user who owns the subscription in order to disable auto-renew.

Username accounts are not deleted and if your are using Akismet and Jetpack you need the username account.

I could not find a cancel the auto renew button. How can I cancel the auto renew and DELETE this account completely. We are now using wordpress.org.

Here we go! Macmanx, I finally found my password and realized the account was different and hence, why I was unable to cancel. Can you please refund the $26? I've canceled the auto renew under the account options. Thank you!

That domain isn't registered under your account. You need to be logged in as the blog owner ('tristran') in order to cancel or renew the domain.

If you don't have access to your account or forgot the password, you can request a new password over here.

Please follow the instructions carefully. You'll receive two separate emails during the reset process, so make sure you read them both. If you don't receive the emails right away, check your spam folders as well. The confirmation emails can get caught in them sometimes :)

where can I disable automatic renewal.. you say this can be disabled anytime, but where do you disable it...also do you send a noticed prior to taking funds if it is not disabled...

Canceling a domain after 2 days of purchase means you completely give up ownership of the domain. There is no guarantee the domain will become available to re-register after cancellation.
