When I link from a page that I'm editing to another page on my own blog, it always generates a ping-back item in my "recent comments" list. This seems wrong. An intra-site link is neither a ping-back nor a comment, and I should not have to approve it anyway since I am the author of the site. What's the deal here? Is there a way to restrict the comments list to actual comments? I want to do lots of intra-site links but I don't want them cluttering up my comments list. Am I doing something wrong?

You can disable pingbacks in general (for published posts you go to Posts > All Posts and bulk edit them to uncheck "Allow Pings"; for future posts you go to Settings > Discussion and uncheck the option "Allow link notifications from other blogs"). Or you can prevent self pings only, by using a truncated URL form - see here:

My posts frequently cite and link to some of my previous blog posts. I have used the Link tool in the Add New Post window to do this. It does work, BUT WordPress seems to treat this as a "pingback", so I am getting dozens of pingbacks from my own links to my own posts. What this also means is that I get all these as both "comments" to deal with and as Email notices to my default Email address.

Is there a way to include a link to my own posts without triggering pingbacks, redundant "comments", etc.?

Thanks - Red Keyhole

Doesn't work anyway. Oh well.

Staff recommended full moderation so that any of my comments would require moderation It doesn't work -- my blog recognizes me as the administrator and posts my comments anyway. I'm just going to have to delete all my pingbacks after they are posted. I sure hope that doesn't ruin things and causes errors on my google webmaster.

Hi, I got a reply to my email to support. Nothing was said about offering this in the future. The only thing is to either do that which was stated in the support page which did not work for me and even if it did, it's much too time consuming. The only other thing that was suggested is setting blog to full moderation and moderating my own pingbacks out. I just may do that as I really, really don't like the pingbacks from my own posts showing up in the comments.

My next question -- is there a way to set a particular person to moderation? If so, I will set myself as needing to be moderated. Right now, I have my blog set on partial moderation -- that is, first time commenters need moderation and after that, no moderation is needed. I would like to set myself on full moderation. Is there a way to do that? I looked but could not find a way but perhaps there is a way and I just can't figure it out.

Thanks!

Maybe support will see this and come up with a way. I just don't like to have my recent comments filled with my own self pingbacks. I only have five recent comments showing and when I post, all the people that commented have their comments pushed down so that only my pingbacks show.

I use Zemanta to list related posts in my blog creating a pingback. Since they are my own posts, they show up under my recent comments. I do not wish to have my own posts show up as pingbacks in my recent comments on my side board. Is there a way to prevent that?

I looked in support and found this:

Normally when you create a link, the entire URL including http:// is used. That will cause a self ping.

To prevent self-pings, shorten the URL from this:
http://en.blog.wordpress.com/2009/03/26/twitter-widget

to this:
/2009/03/26/twitter-widget

Note: The visual editor may add the domain information back into the link. To check that, you must switch to the HTML editor and make sure the link is displayed correctly in the href attribute for the link before publishing.

Unfortunately, I could not get it to work. When I used that format, the page would not open. Also, I was hoping there might be a way to turn off pingbacks for my own posts as doing it the way suggested would be extremely time consuming.

Thanks!
