Hi, i'm trying to display a list of articles belonging to a specific category on a page. Here's the code i'm using:
[display-posts image_size="thumbnail" category="mycategory"]
but no thumbnail image is showing... just the list...

Help needed... thanks

You can make a custom menu, with a tab that will be an archive of a particular category. Just go to Appearance -> Menus, and then on the side you can see categories, just add the ones you want, and remember to press save to the menu. All the posts will need to be in that category mind you.

Or you can make a new page and use the Archive shortcode, depending on exactly what you are after, the shortcode I believe just makes a list of all your posts and you can edit it to make it show only categories if you want. The menu is pretty much the same as if you clicked on a category now, a summary (or full text depending on if you put the 'more' tag in) of the posts listed with the newest at the top and the oldest at the bottom (though there are pages of results).

You don't need to buy anything to do this...

Hi,

We would like to lists a summary of posts by category. How do I do that?

For example, I would like the following pages on my wordpress site:

Page 1) List of Posts that are News Articles
Page 2) List of Posts that are White Papers on Supply Chains
Page 3) List of White Paper Posts by Fred (a staff member of mine)

I can see that it is possible to categorise posts - but I can't see any way of filtering posts summaries according to category.

I am willing / expect to upgrade to Business package/bundle ... but can't see any documentation about that bundle to confirm if it will get me that capability.

Please Advise. Thanks in advance.

Hi there,
I am trying to embed two of my WordPress.com pages in one my WordPress.com page.

I am using the [display-posts] shortcode like this:

[display-posts id="30,25" wrapper="div" post_type="page" include_excerpt="true" ]

This works so far, except that the two pages I am embedding (with IDs 30 and 25) are cut-off, when displayed in the new page, after a few lines (so that only an auto-generated excerpt of each page is actually displayed).

Can I show the entire contents of pages 30 and 25?
Can I hide the title of embedded pages?
And in general, can I display posts in the order given in my "id" param?

I am thinking about using the parameters post_title and post_content to do this, but I don't really know how, since I ignore which values I can use for these parameters (e.g. post_title="none"? post_content="all"?).

Can anyone help me?
My purpose is intended for technical writing with a content-reuse approach using WordPress.com.

...and of course to display posts from a specific author :

[display-posts author="USERNAME" posts_per_page="NUMBER" ]

where USERNAME is (what a surprise!) the WP username of the specific author and NUMBER is the number of articles you want to see in the page. You will see the last posts written by this specific author.

thank you for the information... i didn't know it... so I searched and here is what I found which works for me :
[display-posts tag="SLUG_ID" posts_per_page="NUMBER" ]
or
[display-posts category="SLUG_ID" posts_per_page="NUMBER" ]

where SLUG_ID is the word in the Slug column facing the name of the desired category or tag in the lists of tag or category,
and of course NUMBER is the name of article you want to see in the page. You will see the last posts of that category (or tagged with the specified tag)

Hi everybody,
Since there's no more info available on the above support page, does anybody know how to customise this shortcode in order to display such a list of posts from a specific category onto a static page, please?

e.g I've tried this one, but it only displays a kind of archive list for my 10 latest posts with no category selection
[display-posts taxonomy=category tag_ID=914 post_type=post]

Any suggestion would be great, thanks in advance :-)

[display-posts] is the only shortcode that doesn't have much of a documentation, and now the need is urgent reason: jetpack.me, please list the options in this shortcode, it is a beneficial shortcode since we can't use or modify php ourselves at wp.com

Thank you all so much for your replies and help. I will see what i can sort out tomorrow. I wanted it to be easy for readers to see or at least link to a list of my early post titles, as well as the Recent ones in the widget. I could change it to Show the last 70 posts, but that would be a little long, and it gets longer! Anyway thanks again, and I will look into what you suggest - particularly shortcode seems right - and learn more. Jane

Why not just use the archives shortcode on a page. It will generate a list of all your post titles (linked to the posts).

Actually in looking at your blog, your archives pages appear to be doing what I understand you are asking for it to do. If you need it to be more prominent, consider the menu option I posted above.

It would take some maintaining, but you could categorize each of your posts with a month/ year category, and then use the custom menu link to each months post either as top menu items or as submenu items.

Some themes display the category dynamic pages with full posts, others use excerpts.

That is not possible in the Archives widget. You can make a manual Text Widget, but that's about it.
