I am developing an intranet site for a company and looking for a plugin or some sort that can make doc. ppt. xls. files viewable (and editable if it's possible) on a browser.

Also, all files are stored locally so shouldn't be publicly accessible.

Is there a plugin like that ?

It's not a photo.

You have to insert it like a link onto anchor text, so say This PDF in your post, select the words "This PDF" and click the Link icon. Then put in the URL of the file.

If you want to display it like a photo, you're better off with a PNG or put it into Scribd and use the Scribd shortcode to embed it.

couldn't get it to work..I tried both the "post a photo" button and the "insert a photo" button, it brought up the file choice box, I chose the PDF and then..nothing else?>

Yes, you upload them just like you would an image from within the post editor and when you insert them, they will become a link within your post body (where your cursor was).

Actually I just noticed that the email I received on my test comment held the blank lines I put into the contact form.

It is not something that can be done here at wordpress.com. It is something that could be done with a self-hosted wordpress.ORG installation on a third-party hosting service such as godaddy, bluehost, etc. There might even be a plugin that would allow this, but if there is not, then you should be able to use one of the online form tools to create the form you want. It would not likely support any RTF (rich text format) capabilities.

The other possibility of course is to create your own. How good are you at javascript and/or PHP scripting?

On self-hosting, figure an average overall monthly cost, all things considered, of about $10 to $25 (hosting, domain name registration, etc.).

Yes, that is spam and staff will whack them on the nose shortly I hope.

The problem is, the contact form was never really meant for submission of long documents, manuscripts or short stories, it was just meant as a way to let people contact you without you having to put your email address on the site for spammers to get hold of. I don't think it is going to work for what you want it to work for.

I would suggest setting up a separate email address for this purpose and then post it on your site using one of the munging techniques Timethief wrote about in this post.

kt is spam - I suspect their posting privileges are about gone since this is a repeat performance

I don't know about the formatting - others would be better to address if that is a feature or a bug

back to your orig problem - there is no visitor upload ability

If someone is a regular on your site you could set them up as a "Contributor" then approve their Posts - downside they need an account here.

You could send them an email account that was set up just for them to send you attachments on the email. They would fill out the contact form and you would send them the email address.

they could upload the file to a file share site and send you a link - down side they have to do a lot more work

I'm using the latest version of Firefox. I see the form correctly displayed. That isn't the problem. The problem is that when you copy and then paste a document into the textarea, the paragraphing and line spaces disappear, so it's not usefil for reading long messages like stories, which is the point of what I'm trying to do. If I could get a "wysi\wyg" upload, it would be okay. If the contributor/user could upload a file into the textarea, or if there were an alternative to textarea for file uploading on the form, it would be even better. I couldn't solve this problem. Any ideas? Thanks in advance.

If you are I'm using Firefox 7.0.1 and I see a normal display of the form. I do not see this:

Which browser and version of it are you using? Have you logged out of WordPress.com and viewed that form as visitor would?

When you click on "Mission," you get a mission statement. When you click of "Form to submit a story" or "Form to submit a critique," you get a form I made with your WordPress.com. However, the textarea runs the sentences and paragraphs into each other, so it isn't suitable fot rthe purpose unless you can help me with a workaround such as being able to upload a .doc file.
