I purchased a premium account this morning on wordpress, which gave me the option to register a domain (so I chose johnwinslow.org). Going to the address now shows a 'server not found' message.

In the 'my upgrades' tab on the nav bar, it says 'DNS needs to be updated'. I have read through the support tab linked to the 'Edit DNS' page, but I am still perplexed. I figured that if i purchased hosting through WordPress, that the linking would be included. Every single tutorial video I have watched to try to figure this out assumes that the viewer purchased hosting of the domain through a third party beforehand (godaddy, etc), and that is where they get the information for the DNS.

Where do I find the info I need to map the DNS? Godaddy.com now claims that johnwinslow.org is already taken, so I'm at a loss as to which direction to head? Sorry for the newbie question.. I suppose I should have looked at this before making the purchase (but the wording/presentation in the 'premium' upgrade pitch makes it seem like it will be integrated and SIMPLE...)

Heya!

I've gone ahead and made that change for you. It does indeed require a change in your nameservers in the first place, so you'll receive an email about that, but at least your IP is now pointed at your shared hosting with GoDaddy.com.

So you know, in the future should GoDaddy perform any sort of migration for your site that results in a change of your IP, you'll need to let us know so that we can update your domain name to the new IP. This will allow your site to remain up!

Pointing your domain using A records is a somewhat complicated proposition in our system. I can do it for you however.

If you'd like me to go in and change your A record so it's pointed correctly towards that IP, I certainly can! Or you can change your nameserver as suggested by GoDaddy (and which I also suggest), by following this help article:

Hi All,

Thank you in advance for your patience in assisting a WordPress newcomer.

I registered and purchased my .com domain through WordPress last month and recently purchased hosting through GoDaddy in order to install a custom theme.

In order to avoid the fee and wait time of transferring my domain to GoDaddy, GoDaddy says to change the A record to 173.201.93.1. One support person has told me to also change the Nameservers to NS31.domaincontrol.com and NS32.domaincontrol.com but another support person has told me to leave the name servers as the default WordPress ones. I have left them with WordPress but am now being told by GoDaddy that my domain is not pointing to their host because I have multiple A records attached to my DNS.

Can you tell me how I make sure there is only a single A record listed and if I should change the name servers to point to GoDaddy?

Thank you!

Purchasing a domain and mapping onto the proboard doesn't solve the problem as it would still be a differant domain much as it is now. What I was looking to achieve is to create a subdomain of my current worpress one and use that to mask the proboards domain.
Would anyone know how to achieve this?

Only problem: only http://www.madeleinealizadeh.com works! Typing in madeleinealizadeh.com leads to a Error 404 page. What can I do?

Looks like you already have the domain mapping upgrade but the domain itself is not pointing to the WordPress.com name servers yet. Please go to your domain registrar's site and log into the control panel. You will need to update the name servers as below:

NS1.WORDPRESS.COM
NS2.WORDPRESS.COM
NS3.WORDPRESS.COM

For more information, please visit the help documentation provided by the registrar and our support page:
