Thanks for the information. It seems that something wasn't right with my account since the option to go to Domain Administration was not there previously. NOW it makes sense. Thanks for your help!

To clarify, the instructions I gave you are to map your custom domain to another site hosted elsewhere (not a WordPress.com site). That will only change your custom domain settings so that when someone goes to aussiekidonline.com it will load your other site and not your WordPress.com site http://aussiekidonline.wordpress.com/ .

If someone goes to http://aussiekidonline.wordpress.com/ they will still see your WordPress.com site.

If you want people to be redirected to your other site when they go to http://aussiekidonline.wordpress.com/ (after you have changed your nameservers to point aussiekidonline.com to your external site), then you will need to purchase our Offsite Redirect to redirect traffic to your other site (which would be aussiekidonline.com). You can purchase that in your upgrades page at http://aussiekidonline.wordpress.com/wp-admin/paid-upgrades.php.

You will need to change the nameservers for your domain so that they point to your new host. Please see http://en.support.wordpress.com/domain-mapping/domain-management/#update-name-servers for information on changing your nameservers.

You can access your domain manager to change your nameservers at http://aussiekidonline.wordpress.com/wp-admin/paid-upgrades.php?page=domains . The domain manager is located at the bottom of the page.

Hi,

After three days of searching online via forum, suggested sites, help, even youtube, I'm stuck. I have a WP blog that I paid extra for the domain name (aussiekidonline.com), and I'm trying to point to a web host nameserver. I cannot find where in WP settings I need to change this. Under Store->Domains, I click on my domain and 'edit DNS' and then I'm completely lost. Please help. Thank you.

Hi. To enter a CNAME record, these are the instructions you'd normally follow:
http://en.support.wordpress.com/domain-mapping/custom-dns/

However, I'm sorry, but it looks like you cannot map the WWW subdomain at all if you use domain mapping with WordPress.com...

I don't know all the terminology, so please bare with me.

I bought a domain through WordPress but I became frustrated that I couldn't find a template that worked well for me. I already have a Mobileme account, so I decided to create my own website using iWeb.

iWeb has a function where I can use my own domain. It asks, "Go to your registrar's website. Define web.me.com as the "www" CNAME (alias) for your domain."

I found this link through many searches. http://en.support.wordpress.com/domain-mapping/domain-management/

The instructions seems pretty clear until I got the the part where I enter my nameservers. Domainmanager asks for nameservers 1 and 2. It will not let me enter web.me.com twice.

I did a google search and found that people on godaddy were having similar issues, but it looks like they just forwarded their domain. Domain Manager is not giving me this option.

The only option I get when I click set name servers are..
- I want to park my domain
- I have a hosting account with these domains
- I have a specific nameservers for my domain

Please help, I've read through every post I can find related to this and it's driving me crazy.

I renewed my domain 2 days after it expired; the payment went through and everything. But I do not see the domain under Settings> Domains

There is no link for Domain Manager.

Any ideas?

Any idea when the Contact page for WordPress will be back up?

bought a domain through wordpress, now need to change registrar and have no domain management menu...
it's incredible nobody at wordpress can answer this.

I have a domain hosted on godaddy and email hosted there, but my domain is redirected to wordpress. What should the MX records be so that I can use the godaddy email servers? I can't seem to get specific information from godaddy. Godaddy gives me host names, but not MX records. They don't actually list any MX records that I should use, and there is some confusion in their article whether I need to set CNAME records also. Any help is appreciated.

I seem to have settled on these two possibilities.Are either of these correct, or is there yet another alternative.
Set up 1:
MX 1 m1pismtp01-v01.prod.mesa1.secureserver.net.
MX 2 p3pismtp01-v01.prod.phx3.secureserver.net.
MX 4 pop.secureserver.net.
MX 5 smtpout.secureserver.net.

Set up 2:
MX 0 smtp.secureserver.net.
MX 10 mailstore1.secureserver.net.

Which is it?

Sorry; that's really the only info I've found. I guess the only other thing is wait until Monday then contact Automattic (or email them now so you can get in their queue).

I forgot to mention that you have to create your new password on the 'domains' page in WP. You do this before you click on "manage your domains." You then use that new password and the customer # to login to the current WP.com hosting account. From there, you can repoint the nameservers.

Thanks Amy - I just looked in my clients WP dashboard, under settings/domains and don't see a customer #

I have a feeling my client has not completed the domain manager login process - but not sure about this (and I don't seem to be able to do it for him), so will still await help/replies from WP when they have the time :)

I found it!!! At least I think this is it! ;-)

If you go to your WP dashboard > settings > domains, at th bottom, you'll see a customer #. Write that # down, then click on "manage your domains." You'll be able to log in with your customer # and your new password.

I think this should be it. I'm going to check it out. Good luck and please let me know if this resolves your issues.

I have full access to my client's WP.com blog (which I'm using now), but I don't have access to the hosting login information through WP. My client doesn't have iny info pertaining to the hosting account through WP; he only has his WP.com blog login info. Based on my research, it seems that the blog is currently hosted through WP at Automattic. I tried contacting them but their support page says they are out of the office for a week!

I already set up the files on the hosting account where I would like to repoint the WP.com blog to. I also have the correct DNS details from that hosting account. As for WP, I've found that if you go to the "domains" button under "Settings" on the WP dashboard, you can enter the DNS MX records there. However, I don't think it makes a difference without having access to the DNS records panel on the current hosting account.

It seems that I am stuck until I can gain access to the current hosting account; does this seem correct to you?

Hi Gary and Mike - I have not found anything else yet, so waiting for a response here - I take it you have to do this for clients so can't access the Domain Admin link but you do know what to do from all the knowledgebase articles after that?

I have a new client who I will be building a WordPress site for and he wishes to use his domain at WordPress.com and of course we will export all of his content to the new self hosted site.

I did this before for a previous client some time ago and if I remember correctly, I was able to complete the whole process for him, once he added me as an admin to his WP.com site - both clients having bought a domain through WP.com.

I will be setting up new hosting for my new client and have the relevant DNS info in order to point his domain at the new self hosted site.

In order to do this, part of the process is we need to log into the Domain Manager, my problem is that when I am in my clients wp.com dashboard I cannot see, anywhere the Domain Administration link.

Am I right in thinking that as I do not own the site I am therefore unable to do this part of the process for my client? As I said, I am sure I did this before for a previous client (but I might be remembering incorrectly) - perhaps this is a function that has been changed recently and before I could do it and now I am not allowed?
