I don't know why this strange blog keeps showing at my domain, and not the WordPress blog I created via the WordPress admin.

My domain name in word press mydomain.wordpress.com - isn’t available.

I’m not sure what mapping it for $13.00 at wordpress.com means.

What I’m hoping it means:
-Mydomain.com will work the same as if it was mydomain.wordpress.com.
- I can use any of the free stuff like templates
- I don’t need to know web building stuff

What I’m worried it means:
- I have to buy hosting
- It will be too technical
- unlike a wordpress.com, it will be Limited and I will have to pay more to get it to look right or make changes.

Please try it for yourself to validate my complaint. If the page that gets retuned was to remain as wordpress.com domain then I could mouse over it's name in the top bar and click on Report. However I can not do this as it links to a domain extension (http://reachingutopia.com) which URL flashes up into the browser bar so quickly that the wordpress.com reference disappears within a split second. It is very clever, but also very disruptive as I am convinced culprit site is a WordPress.COM blog. I am not a computing expert but the site may be using a proxy or extension and is posing as a free hosted WordPress.COM blog.

The domain mapping is done even if you were hosted on HostGator - but the domain mapping then is a bit different and the cost is built into the price of the hosting - so you would pay more for the hosting but not see the domain mapping cost - hosting by the way is free at WordPress.COM

Yes you could do a domain forward to your blog here - but then your visitors could be a bit confused (depending on what they clicked on and how you did the forwarding they would see either editwrite101.com or editwrite101.wordpress - and search engines might be a bit confused or not index your content correctly

This blog site used to be administered by someone else. It may be that the transfer wasn't done fully. If you are not the Owner of the site, the upgrades wouldn't show up in your Dashboard.

To determine if you are the owner of the site, please go to your site's Dashboard, click on the "My Blogs" there (NOT in the dropdown list where the Reader is under the big "W" in the Admin Bar). Hover your mouse over the name of the site in question and if you don't see the words "Change Blog Address" and "Transfer Blog" you are not the owner.

The owner of the site must first transfer it to you following these instructions http://en.support.wordpress.com/moving-a-blog/#transferring-your-blog-to-another-user-or-account

It looks like you can set the Nameservers both in the Nameserver option, and the Zone File? Is there a difference?

I don't think so, I think they are like a novice and expert interface to the same thing. Ask Godaddy to be sure
