Hello,

I've changed the nameservers at 123-reg to the wordpress nameservers. I did this more than 72 hours ago.

I've changed the primary domain name at my wordpress site to knowledgeproject.co.uk.

When I try to open the site it says there are 'too many redirects'.

What am I doing wrong?

Hi,

I have a domain registered with Namecheap.com. I paid for domain mapping and followed your instructions. When I enter the URL in my browser, I get:

Hmm, ambody.com isn't loading right now.

The computers that run ambody.com are having some trouble. Usually this is just a temporary problem, so you might want to try again in a few minutes.
Want more detail? See which nameservers are failing.

Clicking the link, I'm told:

Nameserver trace for ambody.com:

Looking for who is responsible for root zone and followed a.root-servers.net.
Looking for who is responsible for com and followed l.gtld-servers.net.
Looking for who is responsible for ambody.com and followed ns1.wordpress.com.
Nameservers for ambody.com:

ns1.wordpress.com
ns2.wordpress.com
ns3.wordpress.com
The servers listed are working, but something else might have gone wrong.

I have no idea what to do next, as the help doc seems to think I'm done once the nameservers are working. How do I fix this?

and now neither site will load. I can't even get to the site from my wordpress page!

The domain name is with Gandi and I changed the name servers hence why I was able to pay and map. Any help would be greatly appreciated as I really have no idea where I have gone wrong.

One thing to note is that when it is trying to load the page the domain name in the web address bar flickers from wordpress.com to .co.uk quickly until finally failing to load.

The links, authority and PageRank that have been earned by your wordpress.com root blog belong to that blog. If you purchase a domain name and move the blog to another URL then all the links will be broken, unless you also purchase domain mapping (302 temporary redirect) so readers are seamlessly transferred between the URLs.

The PageRank on the new blog on your domain will drop to 0/10. That can’t be avoided, however, in about 4 – 6 months time, all things considered you may be able to restore it.

This is also important to understand:

The Domain Mapping Upgrade does not enable the permission to use advertising, any kind of prohibited code, or upload additional themes and plugins. With the upgrade, your blog will still be hosted here at WordPress.com, which means that you will not have FTP access to your files and must still abide by our Terms of Service accordingly.

I’ve searched the forums (albeit briefly) but can’t seem to locate an answer to my question. I am considering purchasing the domain name upgrade but before I do want to make sure that it won’t have any negative impact on links in to my existing site or on people that have bookmarked the current address.

I’m assuming that there is no impact but considering it took me three years to understand what a hyperlink is, figured I should exercise some caution.

Many thanks.
