Someone registered johnberrydrt.com on iPage and no longer wants to maintain the website and has transferred it to me. I don't want to use the software that was used; I'm starting over from scratch using a wordpress template. I had problems using the template I chose on iPage so I tested using it on jbdrt.wordpress.com and everything works.
It would be simplest to register another domain name on wordpress. I tried johnberrydrt.org but someone parked it on godaddy and no way will I pay to use it. I do not want to keep the website that is johnberrydrt.com - just the domain name, but I'm uneasy about how to use it on wordpress even though I think I've found a "how to" on iPage.
Also, if I figure out how to accomplish that, is there an additional charge from iPage or wordpress?
And when it's time to renew the domain name, can that be done without much difficulty through wordpress?
Again, I'm tempted to just go with another domain name to make it easier, so would that be best? If I choose another domain name, I have the advantage of keeping the original website going until I'm ready to publish the new one on wordpress.
Sorry - lots of questions!

I'm sure there is supposed to be another place to put this, but I am just at the end of my rope. Here's my situation. A couple of months ago, I attempted to transfer my domain from wordpress to bluehost. I'm very aware of this support link http://en.support.wordpress.com/domain-mapping/domain-management/#domain-manager-login, and used it. However, whenever I logged in and attempted to unlock my domain, it simply wouldn't work (same with the privacy as well).

Not being well-versed in hosting or anything of the sort, I got frustrated and simply continued with the domain transfer process. I am literally at the last step of doing so with bluehost, except that I still need to unlock my domain. Alright, fine.

So I follow the directions from the previous link to head back to domain management. Except when trying to access the information, I could no longer do so because I had changed the name servers. At the moment, my name servers are bluehost, but I want to temporarily change it back to wordpress. However, I can't seem to do that from either wordpress or bluehost, so I'm just terribly confused and upset at the moment. I just need help!

You would need to change your name servers, and manage your DNS at your other hosting provider. If you're not sure which name servers to use, try contacting your other host.

http://en.support.wordpress.com/domain-mapping/domain-management/#update-nameservers

You can then add subdomain mapping to point your subdomain to your WordPress.com blog:

I have a domain used for my blog .. which is omarmokhtar.net .. (I bought it from wordpress not from another external DNS) .. And I have sub domains that directs to another server ..
For example, omarmokhtar.net directs to my blog .. and server.omarmokhtar.net directs to another website owned by me .. What i want to do is to make the opposite .. I want to make the domain (omarmokhtar.net) direct to the server .. and then make the sub domain (for example, blog.omarmokhtar.net) direct to the blog ??

Thanks in advance,

Either way, I ghuess it was as you said a hiccup, or maybe a maintenance at PairNIC or WP's end.

Hi all,

Is there a scheduled maintenance or some sort of downtime with Word Press right now? I've just noticed my two domains are no longer re-directing to my blog address. I'm a lil concerned because I haven't changed anything since yesterday, and all I did then was add a new Page.

My blog is only a few days old and was working perfectly yesterday. The blog address is (pardon the language): http://fuckcrazyregcomics.wordpress.com.

My two domains that should be pointing to the blog address are: crazyregcomics.com and crazyreg.com. If you go to either of these domains, you will see a full red screen with a cartoon image of Crazy Reg on the left, and a Facebook widget on the right. This was the temp page I used long, long ago, which is located in my Pair.com hosting service account. Both my domain settings still have this sub-folder setting to point to this folder / page, HOWEVER the DNS details both are set to Word Press' DNS addresses, which by all rights should (and have until today) overwritten this. I've re-confirmed my DNS settings for both domains, and they are still set to Word Press' DNS addresses, see below:

NS2.WORDPRESS.COM
NS1.WORDPRESS.COM
NS3.WORDPRESS.COM

Anyone else had this happen recently? What could be causing it?

In any case, I am glad (I guess) that the domains point to the old temp page instead of nothing at all, because if the domains are down for whatever reason, I would like any viewers to know they are still getting the right domain / address.
