Hi there Sam,

I checked your account, and I see the domain added to your site. It is showing up as one day old; it can take up to 48 hours to be properly mapped. I see your site at your custom domain nationalbritrock.com, however, so it looks like everything has had a chance to propagate!

If you don't see your site yet, please try clearing your cache. Here is more information about how to do that:

Hi, I'm looking for some advice on domains.

Yesterday I purchased a domain and received the following message:

"There was a problem making this purchase. Do not reload this page. The domain was registered but not connected to your WordPress.com site correctly.
Support staff have been notified and will fix the problem shortly."

I have since emailed WordPress twice and not received any advice on what I should do. My billing history shows that a domain has been purchased, but it does not work.

I'm new to all of this and these problems have only confirmed my uncertainty about the whole thing.

Any advice?

I purchased a new domain name from GoDaddy.com this morning. I followed the steps to point the new domain name to my current WordPress.com blog. I made the new domain the primary. After a couple of hours, I tried to access my WordPress.com blog. Unfortunately, I only received a GoDaddy.com page that stated the domain was parked.

So I waited a little longer and then I contacted a GoDaddy.com technician who confirmed that I had pointed the nameservers correctly to my WordPress.com blog.

Unfortunately, after a few hours, I still cannot access my WordPress.com blog (even with the old domain names). This is very frustrating because my constituents cannot access my blog either.

I understand that WordPress.com does not provide the opportunity to speak to a HUMAN when we experience problems. However, I purchased the $99 bundle and really need help today.

What suggestions do you have for me to be able to access my blog again?

Thanks, Susan Woods @ 704.968.2769

Good Morning, I have posted the below in the WordPress.org forums and received the below response. Could someone kindly help me out? I am completely at a loss.
____________________

I have been reviewing the forums to figure out how to fix my problem, and while there are many people with the same question, I am finding it difficult to understand the answers.

I have a WordPress.com site (satinandsnowflakes.com) - domain purchased through WordPress. I recently bought a theme from outside of WordPress.com and realize that I need a site on .org to install it. I have purchased a domain on Bluehost and installed WordPress with their "one click" option.

I want to be able to develop my new theme on WordPress.org, but when I try to log into my account (from Bluehost), it directs me immediately to my WordPress.com site.

Question 1: How do I find my .org site (domain is also satinandsnowflakes.com)and log into it to upload my new theme?

Question 2: Is there a way to keep the .com site live until I am finished with my .org site?

I am very very very new to this, so if possible, plain language is best for a reply. Thank you very much, and I apologize if I am repeating a frequently asked question.

You need to contact the folks over at wordpress.com to arrange for your domain name to be moved to Bluehost and pointed at your.org site.

Two choices - you can move the content from lessromanmorecatholic.wordpress.com to lessromanmorecatholicdotcom1.wordpress.com by copy and paste or Exporting the content then Importing it to the other blog

Or you can ask the staff to move the domain and domain mapping to lessromanmorecatholic.wordpress.com (probably the easiest for you)

The primary issue of the holding page being there has been resolved.
It just took some time to 'propagate' I suppose.

However, there is an issue that remains:
when someone types in the 'www.' before the domain, it doesn't work quite right. it will still take the user to my wordpress site, but the header says "web hosting, domain services by 1&1" and the front page (designated 'home') does not load, instead saying "not found"
is there a way to somehow re-route the www. site to the one without that subdomain? i dont need it or want it. i just want to eliminate confusion.

I recently purchsed the Domain Mapping update and updated my settings on the 1&1 registrar site to reflect the new DNS servers and that portion worked out properly. I went back to 'seal the deal' and made my 1&1 domain the 'primary' one. After this, both my x.wordpress.com domain and my 1&1 domain point to a temporary 'holding page' that 1&1 displays if there is no site it can point to.

Is it merely a matter of time until the changes I've made take affect, or I must take a few more steps at this point? For example, there is a 'Destination' settings tab in 1&1 that allows you to either forward the domain or have it point to some directory. The current directory is pointed at "/." It won't let me create a new one or change it. I suppose that is the "root directory." May I just leave it on that? Or must I create a new one that says 'wordpress.com' or something?

Since the documentation about domain mapping did not cover ANY of this, I'm guessing it's ok to leave it at that "/." destination (a.k.a. "web space") and just wait for it to 'propagate.' Someone please help. Thank you.
