Depending on the domain, sometimes "squatters" will wait for the domain to become available, and register it as soon as they can to put ads on it.

However, if you don't want to pay the $106 to retrieve the domain, this is your only option.

The fee for retrieving an expired domain is $80, plus the charges for the domain itself. This $80 fee is assessed by the domain registrar, Wild West domains, and WordPress.com has no control over it.

(Don't worry, you'll get an extra year once it's transferred to Godaddy.)

I have researched how to do this but I cannot find the domain administration. I go to "store" then "domain" but when I get there, there is no domain admin. It also says to cancel the private registration and when I go to upgrade there it says that there is no current subscriptions. Since we are not able to achieve either of these steps we are not able to 'unlock it' and get the Epp authorization code.
