Thanks raincoaster. I had just been mulling over that option.

The other thing I noticed that bugged me a bit: When I changed it to private, it tried to force the option of announcing it on Twitter. Now, we *do* want our public posts announced on Twitter, but not private ones. I thought that was odd.

You do not want WordPress.com for this, trust me. You could do it with a totally separate, private blog for those sensitive documents and a public blog for the rest. At Wp.com, you could not do both those functions on the same site without a HUGE risk of human error posting things publicly.

There is NEVER notification of private posts. The best solution is a separate, private blog. Subscribers to that do get notifications.

Brief background on CWRS Admin: Our board would like to use this blog for two purposes - First, for us (the board) to communicate about ongoing financial and administrative matters. Second, as a transparency tool for those who are interested in our nonprofit's mission.

We want sensitive financial information, as well as sensitive decision-making discussions, to be private. But we want the bulk of our conversations, anything related to fulfillment of our mission, to be open to the public.

Initially, I had tried setting up password-protected posts. But we had two separate and equally disturbing issues with those. One board member (who had NOT yet gone through the paces to accept her WordPress "Editor" invitation) was able to access password-protected posts without entering the password. Another board member (who has a WordPress blog, and *had* accepted the "Editor" invitation) could not get the password to open the password-protected posts. And yes, we double-checked everything.

So tonight, I changed what had been password-protected posts to private. One thing I liked: They disappeared from the blog category drop-down lists. That means that it's not "in your face" that there is material not available to everyone.

But: Although I have subscribed to ("followed") the blog, and I am the blog Administrator, I did not get notification of a new post as I would have expected.

First, how can our board members know that there's a new private post they need to read?

Also, is there a way to have a "menu" of some sort for private posts? If there are non-private posts in a category, and you click on that category (e.g. 2013 conference), then it does show the private posts. But there are a few categories that won't ever have public posts. And there's no way to "see" them.

All help and suggestions appreciated!

Denise.

1 - " Go to Users->Your Profile. There is a checkbox there for it. "
2 - "You can disable the Visual editor by checking "Disable the visual editor when writing" at Users -> Personal Settings in your Dashboard."

However when I go to my profile or in my personal setting there is no such checkbox.

In my opinion a diversity of voices, in that they are distinct and not always aligned, is a distinct benefit for a blog.

One of the reasons why I have my own personal blog vs. developing blogs for other folks.

I consider the effort I've given to his company blog a fair exchange for all the mechanical stuff he did for my bikes (I have 4 bikes) and around home, etc. The good thing is that I have taken his and mine photos whenever it suited, to accompany posts in 3 different blogs.

I don't think of his vs. my personal digital photo collections. I treat our collections as 1 whole resource collection but I make sure original creator attribute is given. Which means it's a huge collection of personal photos. No wonder, why it takes time for me to select photos at times.

I am not sure if there is anyone else on this forum, who has a joint partnership with another family member for creating blog posts, but it's worked fine so far.

I know the "voice" I give to 3rd wave cycling blog is distinctly different voice than his --I tend to write in a more personal style on topics that aren't pure technical topics. (I can't write with real passion on technical topics. I already deal with technical matters to a certain extent, in my paid job anyway.)

I know as a woman cyclist and as a non-white, this also probably gives his blog a more multi-faceted dimension. I know for certain, some of my specific blog posts on certain topics continue to draw blog traffic. Same for some of his blog post topics.

In any relationship we have to develop the ability to know in advance which battles are worth fighting. I don't enter any battles ever. When someone close to me wanted to have a website, I laid out my conditions in writing and made it clear I was not open to negotiation onany of them. The offer was take it or leave it.The choice was either accept my conitions or hire someone else and don't discuss this with me at all. I created a lovely website and our relationship is not in anyway affected by that activity. If it was I'd simply walk away from the website and not the person.

I was amused to learn that my partner's daughter went through a phase of wrestling blogmastering with her boyfriend who is an artist.

She found she had to take over the development of his blog to promote his artwork but until she realized his blog work was haphazard and inconsistent.

Sme time this year, I will be showing my partner more on how to post, etc. I'm not worried about his blog crashing since he is consistent in technical matters. He has had his own web site and looked after it.

Now, editing his content I might have to give up, no matter how tough. He just has a tendency to write in third voice and uses way more inactive verbs.

Several options.

I have made blogs for friends then gave them the site - sometimes transfer other times they were added as Editors and I am still Admin. Some are to be kind "blog challenged" and about all they can do is email in something then I log in and clean things up a bit

You can also have them sign-up for their own blog and add you as an Admin and you can then set things up for them - this works easiest of you can visit them and use their email etc to set the site up for them -

My understanding is that if you move a site to another person they have to re-apply and pay again for upgrades like media and domain mapping.

If you add them as an administrator, or just give them the login details then any upgrades would remain for the remaining period. I would cancel auto-renew and clear out your card details though!

I am not certain about this - perhaps some staff will be able to give a definitive answer.

Hi. I'm in the process of creating blogs/sites for other people. The instructions in the support section seem clear enough. I can either:

1. Move (give) the blog to another person or
2. Name them the site administrator or editor

I assume that I can add components like bandwidth to support audio and video and still transfer, correct?

If moving the site to another person, they will have to log-on and create their registration at their computer, correct? Because of Cookies, I cannot do the registration for them on my computer, correct?

Is there a preferred method of giving someone a blog/site? I assume that it's a mater of personal preference, correct?

Thanks so much for your time. Best, Len.
