Hi there, when you have a custom domain, it needs to be connected to a WordPress.com account so you can continue to maintain the domain through the domain manager.

If you let your domain expire, there is no guarantee it will be released back into the pool of available domain names for re-registration. You have up to 18 days of "grace period" in which you can renew your domain at the regular price. It might eventually re-enter the pool of domain names for re-registration, but there's no guarantee, as it could be first sold so someone who's back-ordered the domain.

If you want to keep the domain but not your site, you could set your site to private under Settings > Reading. That way, you'd still be able to log into your administration area to manage your domain, but the site would be hidden from people and search engines.

Please let me know if I can be of further help.

Hi, I have tried looking for a simple button that will actually delete forever anything related to wordpress.
I let my custom domain expire and when im going to delete it it tells me I wont be able to re-register it again. Not even if I buy the domain from elsewhere?

http://www.keledenxculo.wordpress.com

Thank You.

Just as a suggestion, it would make things 100 times easier if you just had a straightforward Delete button for everything instead of having things so complicated.

Thank you both for the time you took to reply about my query on http://theteachingroomscork.com/ ; much appreciated!

Truthwhispers; originally the hosting was paid for with a company called Register365, and then we had to domain map with WordPress-- so does this mean that the site is hosted with wordpress then, and not 365?

Airodyssey; does that mean that any Windows computer (public such as at a library, or private), that is not configured to use Outlook Express, will not be able to use that mailto link?
Is the "email server not correctly installed" refererring to Outlook Express?

Thank you!

Links that begin with "mailto" can only be used if the browser is configured to handle them, for example, by calling an email software such as Outlook, Thunderbird, etc. or by opening Gmail, Hotmail, etc. So I hope you understand that this is not a WordPress.com support question and that the problem is on your friend's end. :-)

As a workaround of course, your friend can use the feedback form you already have on your website.

Thank you for your reply.
The website is http://www.theteachingroomscork.com
It's not self-hosted; the hosting was paid to another company, and then a domain mapping fee was paid to wordpress.

If the site is using wordpress.com's Post by Email service by default, and I and need not configure anything else, do you understand why, when the lady clicks on email links on pages of the site on her own computer, she gets the following message: "Server not correctly installed"; and when she clicks on email links on a public computer, she is asked for e-mail server names.

I still don't understand.

Thanks so much
C

Hello there,

It looks like the website (link is missing) is hosted on a self-installed WordPress.org package. I think you should check out the WordPress.org forums for help:

http://wordpress.org/support/

If it is a domain mapping with the websiite hosted at wordpress.com, may I inform you that you will continue to use wordpress.com's Post by Email service and need not configure anything else.

If you're issue is regarding custom Email. That is not a WordPress issue. WordPress is basically a Content Management System, not an Email client.

.
.

If Im still unclear, please mention the website and the link you're talking about.

Hi there, I helped a lady design a wordpress site for the above domain name; it is being hosted by another company, and she has also paid for domain mapping. When she clicks on email links on pages of the site on her own computer, she gets the following message: "Server not correctly installed"; when she clicks on email links on a public computer, she is asked for e-mail server names. (She usually ignores these messages, & copies and pastes the email address into her own email account if she wishes to email this link).

Can anyone shed light on this? What do I need to configure? and on which side-wordpress or on the hosting company's side? or both?

Any help much appreciated or referrals to tutorials/info pages.

Thank you, Caroline. Please can you email the response to [email redacted]
