I have embedded several google maps into different pages on my site (www.akmininginfo.org). Is it possible to make the map align with the text (the way you can with an image) rather than just dump it below a paragraph?

Sometimes things need to go in the HTML editor or the visual editor. This has to go in the HTML editor (it's a tab at the top of the Write Post box).

hi, I have a query similar to the above one here, about embedding google maps into my post to allow my viewers to view the location i am writing about.

By definition i assume that WP allows you to put the actual map (like how you view it and can navigate it on google maps) into your post. However, when i follow the instruction to the T in the help provided at http://en.support.wordpress.com/google-maps/
all that my viewers get to see is a long string of code in my post. Is this how its supposed to work? Not sure if i am missing something here. Can someone help elaborate on how to embed the actual map (and not just the code) into a post? Thanks, Bhaven

Thanks. You can't add a dynamic overlay, but if you can make a png or jpg out of the image and upload that, you can use it. It'll be static though.

Well, he's not actually using a standard Google Map. He's using a special overlay technology that is NOT supported by WordPress.com and thus it's unembeddable, for security reasons, just like a Community Walk map overlay.

You can embed Google Maps. You just can't embed maps with these kinds of overlays on them.

We're not the dumbest people in the world - but this is confounding us.

We're trying to embed this map (http://www.bagmonster.com/track-the-movement) in a post on our blog.

We have been emailing with the map creator, and he sent us iframes code for it, which doesn't work on WordPress apparently, and also this link, which doesn't work:

The only maps I know of that you can use on WP.com are googlemaps and Platial mapkit. Or you could turn a map into a jpg and upload it, but that's not interactive.

The GoogleMap embedded in your WordPress.COM blog is the map you create at GoogleMaps. I just tried on a draft Post and if you plot a route on your GoogleMap, the route shows up in the embedded map in your Post.

@ourmaninthefield-So in your case, you'd have to update both the GoogleMap and the resulting link in your blog's Post.

I can see how to embed maps and have to say that I think it's awesome. Just one question, is there a way to show a specific route. ffor example, if I go on a road trip, can I put in the daily locations and have a line show where I've travelled to?

Much like my travel blog - note that the only reason it's on Travelpod and now wordpress is that I can do the map very easily and show routes...

@runningwithslugs: You should have given up from the beginning! The code in the link you gave includes the word "iframe", and these (as well as forms, flash and java) are not allowed in WP.

Robert, that's the easiest solution for your WordPress.com blog. (If you decide you want to replace that button image with a screenshot image of one of their widget maps, that would work just as easily too. Just replace the location in the button code for the image that they provide with the location in your wp.com files for your screenshot. You can even update that image with a new screenshot when the map changes.)

Unfortunately opening the route in Google Earth and then viewing it in Google Maps didn't keep the route intact.

Another possibility is making a screenshot of one of the routes and linking the image to the "View Route" page on MapMyRun.com

It looks to me like they are using Google Maps anyway, so give it a try. I see you can also export to Google Earth, so let me tinker a bit.

Otherwise, you might want to consider the link button they offer, which while isn't nearly exciting, is still usable.

I think the only map we can embed on WordPress.COM blogs is GoogleMaps.

Hi everyone,

I am trying to embed a map on my blog of a charity run I am doing in aid of a local children's hospice.

I use http://www.mapmyrun.com to map the run

I have tried copying and pasting the map into HTML on my blog but no luck. All I get is the title and not the map.

Can anyone help ?
