There are no restrictions if you setup a self-hosted WordPress.org blog instead of a WordPress.com blog, but there are some added responsibilities. We have hosting recommendations at the following link if you are interested.

Just a heads up for people coming here and wondering the same thing I am -- the beautiful new soundcloud embeds are coming over blank for me today. Not sure if it's a problem with WordPress.com or soundcloud or both. Whatever the case may be, they're not working for me today. I'm not sure exactly when they went down, but I'm guessing in the last hour or so. Also, I'm posting this to see if anyone else has these issues today? Thanks.

And now... after trying fifteen or twenty times, it suddenly works. I don't know what I did differently. But it worked. So I guess that means it's resolved...

I did do a quadruple-check again to make quintuply sure to see that the video was public and not private. It was Public. As expected. And suddenly it worked.

As for geographical restrictions I am not aware that any are possible to choose. I have found nothing in the meta-data-editor in blip at least.

This was all doubly confusing since the very same video would embed without any issues on my own blogger-blog. http://www.jmalmsten.com/2011/12/udda-tisdag-rock-rule-1983.html And the video would play fine both there and at the blip-site...

But again... it seems that the issue was some sort of random glitch since it now works... and we might as well call it resolved.

As to the video, that particular video you wish to embed won't play for me either. It is either a corrupted file, or it has restrictions on it. If it has age or geographical restrictions, I don't think you can embed it successfully in a WP.com blog.

Perhaps someone else with more specific suggestions will come along, but my advice is that if that's your video file, change the restrictions or upload it to Vimeo or YouTube and follow those embedding instructions.

Remember: embed codes are sometimes disabled. Sometimes they work, sometimes they don't. Regardless of what you're trying to embed, if WP has a shortcode for it, use the shortcode because that ALWAYS works.

Which are....? Care to link? Because all I find is the standard shortcode answer, which doesn't work.

youtube-embeds work, but not blip.tv.

I have successfully embedded the same video to a Blogger-Blog so I know it should work. Is there a way to disable the short-code until its functionality is back to normal, maybe? Because I think if wordpress would just keep its hands to itself and stop screwing with the html-code I put into the post then it should work, right?

1. You create the static pages your require first.

2. Then you create a custom menu > Appearance > Menus. To create a custom menu, give it a name click Create Menu. Then choose items like pages, categories or custom links from the left column to add to this menu.

When you have finished building your custom menu, make sure you click the Save Menu button.

2. You add the Parent pages you want to display you drag and drop to put them in the order you want. You can also click each item to reveal additional configuration options.

3. Then you add and drop and drag the sub-pages below the appropriate Parent pages, and when you have everything arranged in the menu that you want, you save the menu.

4. Then you go to the “theme location” module at upper left on the menu page. Select your custom menu name from the pulldown labeled “primary location.” Click the save button in that module.

5. Refresh your browser so that it isn’t possibly pulling a cached page, and view see your new menu with Parent pages and dropdowns to sub-pages.
