Earlier today I had two notifications to install updates.

You never ever get that type of notice for a free hosted WordPress.COM blog because Staff do all updates. That's a reference to a WordPress>ORG install.

On this support forum we provide support only for free hosted WordPress.COM blogs. That other site is not a free hosted WordPress com blog. You are posting to the wrong support forum to get help with it. This one is only for free hosted WordPress>COM blog issues. If you don't have a username account at WordPress.ORG click http://wordpress.org/support/ and register one on the top right hand corner of the page that opens, so you can post to the support forums there and receive advice from WordPress.org bloggers.

this though is got me stumped ... ie
from my home page you can go to any of the galleries listed at the top, so i choose artworks or home and it takes me back to my domain provider (crazy domains) - i did the mapping thing and it took a few hours to get my domain name up in wordpress - that worked ! but now every little thing including the thumbnails goes back to crazy domain. hellllllp ....

Hi there,

We launched our new website on wordpress.com and have completed the domain mapping etc. but today I noticed that search engines still have some of the old pages from our previous website indexed under their searches. Obviously when someone clicks on this, they get a "404 error" message. Is there any way to redirect them to the homepage of our site or somehow get these saved pages off the search engines?

Any help would be appreciated.. I am not that "techy"

Thanks :)

I have created a website (with static pages) using WordPress.com. I have created 4 pages. On three of the pages the information I entered shows up just fine, but on the fourth page (Contact IMe:), it continues to show the error message "Nothing Found - It seems we can't find what you are looking for. Perhaps searching can help." I don't understand why the phone number and e-mail address which I entered (and show up on the dashboard edit page) are not appearing when the page is published. I have deleted the page and re-did it several times, but I continue to get the same error message. I created this page the same way I did the other pages. Can someone please show me or explain how I can get this last page published? Thank you.

@deanna OK-I guess I misunderstood your intention. In your original post you mentioned that you want to archive your site, which is what the XML file is. Good for backup in case of mishaps and misunderstandings with wild-eyed co-Admins, transfers to self-hosted sites or transferring to a different WP.com address, but that's about it.

If you export a wp.com blog, then to read it you need to import it into wp.com. I suspect other programs use the XML format, but have no experience: the export file is not something you can use as is.

Hi -- I followed your suggestion about exporting the site as an xml file but when I try to open that file in a browser, I just get a page of code. I am not someone proficient with markup language (you probably guessed as much) - is this how xml files are supposed to look upon opening?

My goal is to have a user select ONE file that opens everything locally, which I have done successfully using site sucker, with the exception of the error message previously.
