The theme description for Equire at http://theme.wordpress.com/themes/esquire/ could use some editing and additional information. Esquire has only one widget area, and that is in the footer. There is no way to add a right sidebar. The bottom footer widget area can be move over and to the right, but due to the way the XHTML (markup) is structured in this theme, it can't be done cleanly. The position of the sidebar will appear to be different, vertically, depending on whether the visitor is logged into WordPress or not.

Hi ceramichepuzzo,

I just want to double check that you're referring to the small horizontal black line that appears below the "Short URL" and "Commenti" links at the bottom of the page as well as inside the left-side navigational bar?

If so, then you can delete it by going to the themes style.css file and navigating to the following code snippet:

.bar {
background: url(img/bar.png) no-repeat 0 100%;
margin-bottom: 7.5em;
overflow: hidden;
padding-bottom: 25px;
}

Delete the following line in this snippet:

background: url(img/bar.png) no-repeat 0 100%;

This will delete both instances of this black line on the page.

Here is an example you can start with to move the widgets in the Esquire theme. This example moves them to the right of the posts. You can adjust the positioning to move them somewhere else if you'd like.

#widgets {
	background: none;
	left: 620px;
	position: absolute;
	top: 30px;
	width: 250px;
}

Note that if you move them to the left, there may be some funny overlap with the site title. You would either need to fix the widgets in place like the site title and keep them small enough to still work for people with smaller screen sizes or you could make it so the site title area scrolls.

Regarding the footer, we do require that you keep the footer credit links in place. You can adjust the appearance so they don't stand out as much though. Here is an example for your blog:

#credit {
	width: 280px;
	font-size: 1.05em;
}
#credit a {
	color: #777;
}

1) Change the color of one letter in my header using CSS. That is, I want the entire word black, but one letter in the word to be orange.

There isn't a way to change the color of just one letter in a heading using CSS only. I would recommend using an image instead. Once you make the image, I can help you with image replacement CSS if you need help with that.

2) Make the first letter of each word in my subtitle to be bolded using CSS.

CSS can do that! Use this:

text-transform: capitalize;

You'll need the subtitles to have a specific HTML element or class to attach to—such as h3 or h4. Or you can add the CSS inline, but I wouldn't recommend that.

Here is an example of HTML from your current home page:

Why social media and digital marketing?

You should edit that and change it to:

Why social media and digital marketing?

Then add this to your Appearance → Custom Design → CSS editor:

.content h3 {
	font-size: 1.8em;
	font-weight: bold;
	color: #0000ff;
	text-transform: capitalize;
}

Not reliably, not with the way they have done the markup (XHTML). There is no overall wrapper on the theme which means that you couldn't move the widgets to the left and then lock them relative to the rest of the content. They would be located relative to the browser window which means unless someone had their browser window set at just the right width, things would be misaligned.

I see custom CSS in your site, and it looks like you copied and pasted the entire stylesheet in there, which most often causes issues. (Was that perhaps CSS from a previous theme you have active?)

Go to appearance > custom design > CSS, delete everything in the CSS edit window, make sure add to existing... is selected and then click save stylesheet to return to the original CSS for Esquire and see if that does not take care of the problem. CSS is theme specific, so the CSS from another theme can mess things up.

When doing CSS here, add only the specific selectors, and only the specific declarations you are changing or adding to the CSS edit window. That will cut down on a lot of problems.
