Hi!

I´d like to know if it will ever be possible to expand a post (not open it in a new window) in blog frame/view on wordpress.com. i know it could be done in wordpress.org. i would see it as feature, somekind of an other "more" function in a post combining a preview with text and picture, and a "basic setting" for a blog so all posts viewed expand are able to expand by clicking seperate posts.

would that be possible, is it interesting for sombody else?

thx

Hi,

Well, I don't mean hovering to expand a submenu from one of its options. I mean the appearance of the entire sidebar menu.

For example on this help page:
http://en.support.wordpress.com/menu/

it says "If you want to save some extra space in the user interface and hide most of the menu system, click on the collapse menu button at the bottom of the menu."

and then later

"If you want to get the full menu back again, click the expand menu icon at the bottom of the menu."

This describes the behavior I was used to before: by default, the menu was expanded to show both icons and words; you could collapse it to show only icons if you want via the collapse menu button at the bottom.

What seems to have happened is that the default is now switched: that is, by default, the menu is collapsed to show only icons; you can expand it to show both icons and words via the expand menu icon at the bottom.

Is there any way to switch that default back?

Or failing that, is there a way to move the collapse/expand up to the top, so that I don't have to scroll down to reach it? Or is there a shortcut key I could memorize?

Hi Victoria. If you are talking about the fact that you have to hover over any given option on the dashboard (Appearance, Settings, etc.) it's not just you, it's everyone and it's been like that for quite some time now. There's no option to have it permanently expanded. It stays expanded only while you are in a particular section of your dashboard. (For example, if you are in Apperance > Header, Apperance will stay expanded).

I prefer the dashboard menu in its "expanded" form so I can see words as well as icons.

Recently (possibly associated with getting a new computer & new version of Firefox), the menu loads in expanded form and immediately collapses. When I expand it by clicking on the expand icon, it's fine until I reload the page, or click on one of its entries to go to one of the admin pages that it gives me access to: then it collapses again.

How can I get it to set to be expanded and stay expanded unless I explicitly collapse it?

thank you,
Victoria

Not necessarily tables, but anyway images inserted one by one, not as a gallery. Individually inserted images can at least be made to open in a new browser window or tab.

But first you should take care of something else: the files you've been uploading are huge (the one I checked is 6.7MB, width 4000px, resolution 180). Few visitors will bother waiting for them to load completely, plus you're simply wasting your storage space. There's no point uploading 4000px wide images when few users have screens wider than 1200px, or uploading 180dpi images when all browsers display them at 72. Instead of uploading your original photos, you should make copies of them, downsize them in an image editing application to a resolution of 72 and a reasonable pixel width, and upload and insert those copies.

hi,

i'm new here. if you have a look at my blog it only has photos on it. (andmorefood.wordpress.com)

they are laid it out using the gallery function (because I dont see another option for laying out besides a slideshow which i don't want).

basically, I don't want the photos to link to another page (where it is full size, and which is what is happening now) nor to the attachment page. i would like to make it so clicking on the photos expand them on my main page, pretty much like lightbox. i don't really care about people accessing the photos or downloading them, just that it would look much better if it only expanded on the main page without going to another page!

could anyone help with how to do this please? really new here and rather lost :( thanks much!

hi pattie, i started a new blog and tried to transfer a new address etc with help on the forum and it did not work.

so i deleted it and started again, you don't want " another blog " you want to register under a new address and new user name and get a "new " blog, it's about the only way it will work.
