I think it depends on the nature of job. But still we should look at our country's national statistics for college and university graduates: it's still not the majority. The higher cost of tuition is becoming expensive plus other factors.

We have to constantly challenge our own social borders of our own perception of the world that we know: still narrow.

For most of the degrees at the university I go to, a period of work experience is compulsory which is good because you come out after four years with a degree but also with hands on experience. It's definitely how degrees should be.

Degrees have never guaranteed a job. These days experience doesn't guarantee a job either

You learn these 2 different lessons either simultaneously or each lesson at different points in time.

It's how to see a degree as a giving you the discipline and tools on how to think ..about anything, how to learn for life in a focused manner and how to translate what is most applicable for what you are doing/want to do.

Are we allowed to vote for a combination of both?

I double majored in two very broad fields. I graduated in 2010, with my two diplomas, honors, magna cum laude (but no summa! alas!) but I landed my job based on the hands on skills I acquired by being proactive and getting experience outside of classes (or taking targeted hands-on skill based labs).

You gotsta have a plan and think ahead sometimes (not that it always works out, but it does help).

It is often that the experince people are the ones that get the job.

After school years. Many students scramble to get a degree, well others jump-start to working- gaining practical experience and knowing that they have a job. As for the students which have no guarantee that the degree they have studied for at least 3 years will provide a job in the end.

So what's your take- Degree vs experience ?

My blog is about an experience I had that changed my perspective on life.

I grew up in the fishbowl of a preacher's home. I left home and went to the "far country" and then returned only to pretend to be what I was expected. I questioned my faith and what was I had always believed to be reality.

Check out my blog for my "experience" as well as posts on additional topics. Life is about the here and now-each decision is an important one. I hope to soon follow-up with my story in the hopes it helps someone out there.
