I tried to import one (genxmarketing.wordpress.com) WordPress blog into another WordPress blog (stantonadams.wordpress.com) I tried it three times as a xml doc and it has not uploaded. HELLP!

You can export your content from the Tools section of your blog's Dashboard.

If you're having trouble with the import, I recommend contacting the folks at http://wordpress.org/support/

To clear up any confusion, WordPress.com and WordPress.org are two different entities.

My web designer has already created me a new wordpress.org site using studio press
It it possible for one of your happiness engineers to transfer the content from my existing wordpress.com blog site to this new site? I don't need to have the 'full service' you describe ie the self hosting and website set up.
If so how do I arrange to have you do this and how much will it be
I have tried to do it myself with some success, all the text comes over but the images are not formatted correctly and not in the media library for each post
I would really appreciate your guidance!

Hi, and thank you very much for your attention and quick response.
Multiply has implemented this week some tools to generate .xml files, to export contents to Blogger and Tumblr, as you mentioned.
(For Multiply users: the tools are in the side rail, under the avatar.)

I've tried to import this file in Blogger first, though I'm interested in saving my blog here in WordPress, but the process fails in Blogger. I think Multiply must refine the process to generate the .xml file. We're still pending about that.
I've seen that the .xml file has a lot of explicit references to Blogger site, so I think it won't work if I try to import the blog directly to WordPress, but maybe you can suggest something different.

Hola y muchas gracias por tu atención y rápida respuesta.
Multiply ha ofrecido esta semana algunas herramientas para generar ficheros .xml, para exportar los contenidos a Blogger y Tumblr, como mencionaste.
(Para usuarios de Multiply: las herramientas están en el panel lateral, bajo el avatar.)

He tratado primero de importar este archivo en Blogger, aunque lo que me interesa es salvar mi blog aquí en WordPress, pero el proceso falla en Blogger. Creo que Multiply deberá perfeccionar el proceso para generar el archivo. xml. Seguiremos pendientes de ello.
He visto que el archivo. xml tiene un montón de referencias explícitas a Blogger, así que creo que no funcionará si intento importar el blog directamente en WordPress, pero quizá nos puedas sugerir otra cosa.

Hi,

How are you trying to view the content of the export file? Are you viewing it in a text editor?

The WordPress export file (WXR) is primarily meant for moving a WordPress site to another WordPress.com blog or self–hosted (WordPress.org) blog, so it'll contain your posts, pages, comments, categories, and tags.

You can see more details about the export file here:

I just downloaded an export file for your blog, and its size is 221 KB.

Why does all the content of my blog not appear when I export?

When I use the export function and attempt the download just a few lines appears but not the whole blog.

Aha! If you import into a Tumblr blog your could then export out of it into your wordpress.com blog > http://en.support.wordpress.com/import/

ok am working on converting to RSS, but i don't know what i am doing so it's taking minute, it's telling me set parameters, love to if i knew what that meant :}.

they did add export to blogger or tumblr in side rail this morning on Multiply, but unfortunately it is not working, big surprise ...

one way or other will figure this out

i can try, that would be great for the political archives. thank you very much, really don't want political things downloaded and stored with my personal. i am sure it would take many more hours to mirror than my personal site did.

Can you see if you can get all your content into one RSS feed? I can't make any promises, but we might be able to help manually import in that manner.

no they don't. they were supposed to provide one due to closing but their customer service has been pretty much null and void since they abandoned blogging aspect of site two years ago. they didn't bother to inform us till this month, even though they knew for two years now.

i did send customer request to them but am not hopeful on reply since new CEO in Philippines is laying low over legal issues with sale.

wanted to import political groups content just for archive storage rather than downloading all but no such luck as yet

this is great tool for anyone interested or same problem as mine, it copies website as mirror, you can browse just like online. it does take quite a while, my personal site took 8 hours but less than 1G of space.

As there is no exporter then the RSS feed is the next and only option. In fact it may be the only automated way to get the content out before the Multiply site closes down.

and rss feed won't help when entire site is going to disappear

i want to import some political groups i host content to wordpress from Multiply, Multiply is closing, long story. the short of it is they gave us no tools to save our content, i have been there since 2007 is a lot of content, don't want to have to download all that to offline storage but don't want to lose. can you help, Multiply is fast sinking ship. am not doing one blog at time, i would be dead and gone in the amount of time that took

Will you also please link your wordpress.com username to your wordpress.com blog, rather than to that blogspot blog? It’s very easy to do. Here’s how to link your username to your blog in your blog Dashboard -> Users -> Personal Settings -> then scroll down to Account Details. Then scroll down to where it says ‘Primary Blog‘ select the URL for your primary wordpress.com blog and then save changes.

I've never used Multiply but I use others all of which have the export file setting timethief mentions - (it's usually under tools) - check whether they do searching their help pages if needed to find it.

Hi Peter. Thanks for open this topic.
I've been a Multiply user for some years too. This is my second time trying to rescue a blog, cause I was a Yahoo! 360 user before.
I moved my old 360 blog and comments to WordPress some years ago, and it has been secured all this time, but much of my contacts moved together to Multiply, and so did I.
Now this site is closing and I'm interested on migrate all my contents to my site on WordPress.
I wonder if WordPress will offer some import processes to Multiply users, as you did with Y!360 users. That would be amazing, as thousands of Multiply users are needing a solution for their blogs, multimedia contents, and comments from their contacts.
I'll keep an eye on this topic.

I have been using Multiply for several years and that site will be closing. Do you have any suggestions on how I can export my blogs and photos from Multiply to my new site on WordPress? Will you be coordinating any export/import processes with Multiply?

Unfortunately, no. We attempted to, but the format that Google provides now is more for archival purposes, not content processing.

Unfortunately, Google shut down Knol on April 30th, and the migration period to WordPress.com has ended.

I believe you can still contact Google to retrieve a copy of your Knol, but it won't be in a format that we can import.
