Sorry about that. I just put the Facebook Like Box widget back on. They are in the sidebar on single posts.

Also, did you put them in the footer widget area, or did you put them in sidebar that shows on the single post pages?

When I look at the source code for the site referenced, I don't see the code for widgets in the footer. Did you delete them?

We can't help if we can't see the code to determine what is wrong.

I put the Facebook like box widget on the sidebar of my blog a long time ago. And it looked great. Then one day it just stopped working. No matter how many times I remove it and then add it again, it never shows up.
I also tried integrating a Facebook badge per your guide here (http://en.support.wordpress.com/facebook-integration/facebook-badge/), but that doesn't work either. No badge.
Please help.

I disagree with your roommate. Facebook is a place akin to a restaurant where you waste time and post status updates. Blogs are for publication of meaty articles that we can post a link back to on Facebook.

WordPress.com is hardly a site that no one is ever heard of (I'm LOL) so I assume your roommate has very little internet experience. There’s a great article in Forbes that covers some of the early days of WordPress through Automattic as a business today. I recommend checking it out.

Thank you for responding so quickly. I have the Facebook badge already. It was an easy way to put my picture on my WordPress blog, and have it link to my Facebook.

I don't care for Facebook. I don't care for LinkedIn either. Perhaps my entire approach for things are completely backwards, and that is why I have been unemployed since 2006. Being unemployed, my resources are stretched to the breaking point, otherwise, I would simply host my blog at a paid site.

My Facebook page was finally setup last winter as all the employment seminars I went to said that it was a good way to help find work. Just be careful what you put on it so that it doesn't have a negative impact. So, my facebook page is limited to content that is on my resume.

Now I've gone another step and created a blog as a way to showcase my personal programming projects that I am working on when I'm not otherwise engaged in my job-search. So, it only stands to reason that I want a Like button on my WordPress blog so that it can be added to individual Facebook pages.

I've just been told by my roommate that I've basically wasted my time creating a blog at a site nobody's heard of (WordPress.com) when what I should have been doing is "blogging" on my Facebook page. I didn't think that the Facebook format was organized in a way that is conducive to the writing I want to do.

There is something like this and it's called the Facebook badge. Badges make it easy for you to show off your Facebook profile, as well as your latest status updates, on your WordPress.com blog.

I just want a simple Facebook Like-button for my FREE WordPress.com page. I don't have a Facebook PAGE. I have a Facebook PROFILE (though I don't know what the difference is, since Facebook states they don't allow companies to have pages). If I was connected to some company, I probably wouldn't be blogging about my projects anyway, and instead would be adding all the energy I'm wasting on blogging to working on my projects.

I don't want to turn my BLOG on WordPress.com into a "feed" to anyone's Facebook page: I want only that when someone clicks on a Facebook Like button in my blog, that they jet a little entry in their Facebook LIKES section....nothing else. Why can't you guys just do something simple?

I am sorry, maybe I am not being clear about my question...Facebook has plugin code and I know how to get the code: after typing in my blog info, it gives me the following:
I don't know what to do about #1 below. Where am I supposed to place the code#1? I tried to copy and paste the code 2 to the Text Wiget, but it does not work. It does not show any button.

I understand that, but I would like to have one on the sidebar, just like the twitter, which will connect to reader's own Facebook account log in page (if he is not signed in), is it possible? if so, do you know how?

i am having trouble putting the code to my sidebar using widget. Could someone help me?

All i want to do is put facebook Like Button not Like box . I went to FB and typed my website and pressed "get code". There is two codes listed and I don't know what to do with that... I tried to put them both or put the second one to the Text Wiget but nothing comes on. Twitter was easier. Does anybody know how to do it?

I am able to add my Facebook (business) Page in the Primary Widget area through a text box widget...but:

1. after a few hours, it disappears from my website (yes I am saving it)

2. it also adds a line above the widget that is a link to my Facebook Page and it adds a line below the widget that is a link to promote my page through Facebook. I know I need to delete some of the code to get rid of these two lines but can't quite get it right. My code is as follows:

I'm with raincoaster. You can't Like or Share something to Facebook unless you're logged into Facebook as the information has to have a destination.

Well, yes and no. When the click the link pointing to my profile and are not logged in the following error message appears:

This content is currently unavailable.

The page you requested cannot be displayed right now. It may be temporarily unavailable, the link you clicked on may have expired, or you may not have permission to view this page.

Shouldn't a screen shot of the profile at least come up? Or is that only for pages with a "like" box?

Is this not the way it's supposed to work? You can't Like or Share something to Facebook unless you're logged into Facebook. The information has to have a destination, ie your profile.

I forgot to say that if "Protect my updates" is checked in your Twitter account, this widget will not be able to access your Tweets. See Public vs. Private at Twitter.

The Facebook profile widget works on my wordpress.com page. The twitter widget not. If both are java scripts why is one working and the other not???

The Like badge is visible only in the sidebar. The sidebar is not displayed on the front page. Hope that was clearer.
