If you want to dumb it down, you can simply have a Wp.com blog and get them to put things in the comments section. Then if it's an image, YOU can edit their comment and make the image show. Until then, it's just a URL. But they can't really make live blog posts to a WP.com blog unless they're authors.

You might be interested in Windows MU, which is free software designed to do this sort of thing, or Buddypress, which is similar, but with social interaction like FB.

It's possible on a WordPress.ORG website. It will cost you a bit of money to set up properly or lots of time if you want to do it yourself, because allowing people to upload things to your site is a HUGE security risk. You want to set it up securely from the get-go.

I've been trying to get my blog's favicon working since I opened it (about a week now - or just under) and it's still stuck on the WP logo / icon. I've done browser refreshes, and in the case of Safari, an entire reset, but it's still showing the WP icon.

I've googled and searched for how it's done here and taken all the necessary steps I have been advised to, but still nothing... This includes learning that only wordpress.org accounts can use the FTP and do it that way. I'm wordpress.com. I've added a gravatar and a blog image, which shows up TEMPORARILY in my dashboard, but yeah, still no dice... And to boot I cannot find an official "how-to" in the WP help sections, or this forum.

Can someone please explain to me how it's done?

I am currently writing a book about my work experience as a mall cop, and during a feedback session with some friends, they raised the idea of promoting my book through a public blog.

I thought it was a good idea then so I set up a blog and starting adding content.

I did some tweaks to my blog and so while the writing style is representative of what I am using for my book, and while the subject matter (daily run-ins at the mall) will be the same, it won't be so much 'freebies' but more 'samples'.

As in a sample of things to come. The book itself will have way more content, more of my thoughts (rather than just descriptive prose of what-I-did) and a director's cut chapter for the extras.

So feel free to check out my blog and comment. I especially welcome criticisms. But before you do, please be aware that the style I use is meant to be conversational and light. It is Mall Cop Diary, so it will be written as if I am confiding to my personal diary.
