Hello, I'm a new user to website creation and hosting but I'm eager to learn.
I'm having trouble with getting traction on starting the whole process though.
I purchased a domain name from WordPress.com, I've been following the guides on WordPress.org's sites on how to start up but came to an early stop when I tried to use Filezilla to connect to the host for the FTP.
I then realized that WordPress.com and WordPress.org are different entities entirely.
So now I'm stuck and I can't figure out what to do from here.
I guess I don't understand domains or how this whole thing works very well.

Can I use the domain I bought from this wordpress.com website for WordPress.org or will I have to buy/transfer a new domain somewhere else? Or can I use the domain I bought here to go to a host somewhere else using WordPress and FIlezilla to manipulate the themes?

Much appreciated
Daniel

You are limited to the about 220 themes you can find from your dashboard - you can not add outside themes to a blog here - there is no FTP or Fileezilla access to any blog here nor is there any upgrade you can buy that will give you that type of access

You should get a refund from the people that sold you the theme since it can't be used here

I did not choose or paid to host my current blog with Layered Tech. It was simply a wordpress pre determined configuration when I created explorewithmichelle.wordpress.com
Now I do have a domain that I bought (explorewithmichelle) and I have a hosting plan with Godaddy. All I need now is my Layered Technologies hosting information to be able to download my FTP. I need to know the name of the host, username, password and port.
Unless there is another way to get my wp_config file and my SQL database I really need that info.
Can anyone help me?

if I've paid for having a WordPress blog with all the features.

Again, if you are talking about WordPress.com, what you've probably paid for are upgrades, but the blog and hosting itself on WordPress.com are free.

As tsp said above

To use the theme you downloaded you will have to self-host a blog using the software from wordpress.ORG on a third-party hosting service such as godaddy, bluehost, etc. Figure an average monthly cost, all expenses considered, of about $10 to $25

And yes, you will have to upload those files, both the stand-alone WordPress software and the theme to your 3rd party hosting service. Stand-alone WordPress is supported at http://wordpress.org/support so if you need assistance with it, that's where you'll need to go.
