I hate wide sites - just too hard to read

I'm with you on that. My screen resolution is 1024x768 pixels and if I'm faced with a horizontal scroll bar on any site I click out never to return again.

Well my screen resolution is only 1024x768 pixels and with the exception of a few narrow themes like Flower Power, the other themes here fill my screen. I just created a free blog. I'm going through available free themes, and they are all very skinny, using 1/2 to 2/3 of the available width of a standard screen. Is there a way to fix that? I've gone through all the theme options for many of the themes, and I don't see any way to change that.

There is no FTP access to free hosted WordPress.COM blogs like the one linked to your username and we cannot install individual plugins or third party themes into them. Those found on the internet are for WordPress.ORG installs which run on different software.

If you are expecting to be able to click a button and change fonts throughout your blog then it’s not that easily done. These are 3 ways to change fonts on wordpress.com blogs.

(1) Changing font families, colors and size in text in posts or pages either post by post or page by page by coding into the HTML editor. http://en.support.wordpress.com/editors/font-size-color/

(2) Changing font colors in text in posts or pages either post by post or page by page using the #4 icon (Select text color – change the text color) in Row 2 the Visual editor. http://en.support.wordpress.com/visual-editor/#row-2

(3) Changing all font families, colors and sizes throughout the whole blog by purchasing an annually renewable Custom Design upgrade and using Typekit Fonts with Staff support. http://en.support.wordpress.com/custom-design/
Note: Any font changes to font families, colors and size in the blog title, tagline, post titles, page titles, categories and tags cannot be done without CSS editing.

Most likely it would require a ton of modification and hacking. It doesn't even support gravatars, and from reading through the comments and questions, it has a lot of bugs. I don't know that wordpress would be interested in what might be a very large project to actually make this theme stable and compatible with wordpress 3 +.

Not saying the won't, just saying that with all the apparent work required this one might not make it. I'm sure the theme team will take a look at it though.

There are about 100 to chose from and you can refine your search with keywords too. The other wordpress themes you've found are only available for wordpress.org installs where you have to buy hosting and a domain and do all the hard techy stuff keeping your site up and running. Why not skip through other wordpress.com users' blogs and see if you spot a theme that looks like it might work for you.
