I just wanted to thank you both for the help. I think that it was indeed malware. I ended up disabling and removing all of my plugins and add ons. I also have a mac so I downloaded Sophos Antivirus and it seemed to have fixed the problem. I am no longer frustrated and the popup has gone away.

Thanks again and I hope this forum helps with other similar problems in the future.

The odd thing is that I personally have not downloaded anything except some images from my family, all Mac users. And still I get the odd site taking a survey so I can win some faabulousss prize. Husband and daughter both use our network so perhaps they have done something? Or maybe downloading images from siblings?

It has also happened a couple of times at work, and as the admin I thought I'd blocked any activation of downloaded software from everyone except myself. Could be I am the one contaminating the network??? Turning the router off, waiting a few minutes, then turning it on again clears the problem.

Or is this more invasive than I think?

Hi Tess,
It's truly annoying that malware is being bundled into some shareware now. Apple’s image of invulnerability to security exploits is ill-informed as there is no difference between Mac and Windows computers when it comes to security these days. We all need to be very cautious about what's in what we download. You're welcome.

Hi all-

I'm having problems resolving an issue some users are experiencing when visiting a blog I set up (http://beatfreqs.com). Apparently, when they visit the site with IE it pulls us the 'Stop running this script?' error message, shortly before the entire system locks up. I'm not really sure how to diagnose this; I don't have IE for one, and the error message is completely unspecific as to which script is the problem for two. Any ideas or suggestions?

Hugely appreciated.

When I visit http://internationalisationprocess.wordpress.com/ using IE 8, it locks up explorer for about 2 to 3 minutes. Completely freezes it. CPU goes through the roof. But only the first time. After that, it's fine, unless I start a new instance of Explorer. Then that will then display the same lockup behaviour, once.

Have tried on a different PC, with a different service provider, same result. Firefox is OK. IE used to be OK - the blog was created with it.

In the status bar it displays something like "(2 items remaining) Downloading picture http://stats.wordpress.com/g.gif?host=internationaltionprocess.wordpress.com&rand=0.596133188439..." (The rest is truncated) Can also be "(1 item remaining) Waiting for http://internationalisationprocess.wordress.com/..."

The site is using Coraline and the banner chosen is one of the standard ones. Although this is odd - when I try to set my own blog to display that image, it isn't one of the options? The banner image does display before the lockup happens, suggesting that it isn't what the wait is for. There are no non-standard images on the page.

Firebug reports one error on the page - Gravatar is not defined. But I don't think that's new, and this all used to work.
